Top Mount Oar Lock Socket
Anyone have a source for a top mount oar lock socket for a 5/8" oar lock shaft? Seems 1/2" is the only kind available. Need tall oar locks and they only come with 5/8" shafts. Thx, Appreciate any help.Tags: None -
Re: Top Mount Oar Lock Socket
I have used oilite bronze bushings from McMaster-Carr before.
Drilled into the deck for a flush mount and epoxied in worked in my situation. -
Re: Top Mount Oar Lock Socket
I've done the oilite as well. They are cheap, precision made and self lubricating. One caveat, from experience - make sure to seal any wood in contact or the oil will wick out of the bushing. I made a set by press fitting oilite into a plain bushing, then using a top plate to hold it. This would allow future replacement, but in 13 years of saltwater rowing they are still working fine.

Re: Top Mount Oar Lock Socket
You can make your own from a block of HDPE or hardwood thru-bolted on top of the sheer. That will give you a bit more height as well. HDPE is relatively quiet too. Make them long and drill multiple sockets and you'll have adjustable placement for different sized rowers.Comment

Thx all. I was thinking I would have to make some. Think I will head for the oilite/bushing thing. Appreciate it.Comment
