Re: Ptarmigan 17 glued lapstrake yawl
Those
do not look like this
I can even see the dowels securing the two ends of the loose tenon. It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

They sure look like half-lap joints. Why not use dowels to secure half-laps?Comment

Re: Ptarmigan 17 glued lapstrake yawl
In light of the following comment from Larks I'll clarify, This reply is to Nicks comment in which he has the gall to inform me that he knows how I made my joints and I don't. The older I get, the less patience I have for internet genii erroneously dolling out their wisdom in the desire to demonstrate their superiority.
You're dreaming, there are no dowells there at all. You might be mistaking holes left by screws used for positive locating and clamping but removed after glue up. By the way, I'm the one building the thing so it's a bit rude and self righteous to tell me I don't know what joints I'm using!Comment

Re: Ptarmigan 17 glued lapstrake yawl
Steve, I think that may have been a question for Nick about the dowels: depending how you read his post it seemed to be suggesting that because he could see dowels (plugs over your screw heads?) they must be tenon joints...... and perhaps the ply transom attached to the frame could kinda look like the other side of tenon joint...???Larks

“It’s risky”, said experience.
“It’s pointless”, said reason.
“Give it a try”, whispered the heart.

Re: Ptarmigan 17 glued lapstrake yawl
I'm at a bit of a stand still now, waiting for an Oughtred Acorn to vacate the build frame at the boatshed, probably around a months time.Comment

Re: Ptarmigan 17 glued lapstrake yawl
Can you ever have enough clamps? I can't believe I built a Tammie Norrie with a few less than this. Just enough to laminate two layers of 9mm ply for the rudder. Thankfully there are quite a few more at the Boatshed for when I start building in earnest.20230201_154429.jpgComment

Stay tuned folks, the Oughtred Acorn is off the build frame. The Ptarmigan frames and bulkheads are at the boat shed and we'll stand them tomorrow, pics to come.Comment

As promised, pics from today's efforts. With the use of a laser level we had it trued up pretty quickly and only have the transom and stem to get locked down20230223_121044.jpg20230223_121119.jpg20230223_121130.jpgComment

Re: Ptarmigan 17 glued lapstrake yawl
Yeah, in a perfect world I'd be building another Oughtred boat but he doesn't do one that suits.
The plan is to fit the CB case which will really stiffen up the centre sections, fit a few braces and the stringers and see what further bracing is neededComment
