Been fitting the hardware- I think (hope!) it's going OK so far.

I did the drilling over size holes and re drilled for the M8 bolts. I added a slurry of epoxy to the bolts and fitted them using a large washer and a lock washer. The oak pad is epoxied to tge deck. I epoxied the steel plate to the oak pad, and used a butyl sealant to bolt the bollard to the plate. The head of the bolts are buried in the oak pad and epoxy is in the holes. I just thought if I ever wanted to remove it, it will be much easier with a butyl sealant as opposed to epoxy.

Think you'll be able to offer ships a tow with that samson post - that's not going to move :-)

Next job is the fairleads and the bow roller. I did have holes drilled for the bow roller, but it brought the anchor quite close to the bow when lowering/raising. I've filled them in and will move it 40mm forwards. This will also keeps the hinged part of the roller a little further away from the boat. I may end up fitting a little rub strip to the stem. I can drill the holes for it, but can't fit it yet- the stem is within 10mm of the door, so fitting the coach screws will need to wait until its outside. The roller has 6 mounting holes, and the 18mm ply spine comes to right under the deck, with 25mmx 65mm framing each side. I have M8x 60mm coachscrews to fit it with.

I've got a trailer sorted for it- I go to collect it in a couple of weeks.

Because I rounded the deck, the fairleads don't sit nicely against the edge of deck. I'll cast a little flat base for them to sit on, as close to the edge as I can to avoid chafe.

I have some 12mmx45mm which I'll to use to cover the join where I chopped off the wheelhouse. I might strip the paint off and fit these to the outside of the boat just now. The 22mm or so lip might make it a bit easier when the time comes to re-attach the wheelhouse- hopefully soon.

A day of fixtures and fittings....amazing how long these take.... Next job is fairleads and a couple of pad eyes in the locker to stop the anchor moving around.

Would ss acorn nuts work/look better on the bolard?

Good shout- would save anything getting caught on the exposed threads, cheers

hitting one of those bolts with a bare toe is going leave a mark....

Yep, it will definitely hurt! Acorn nuts would cover the exposed thread- open to suggestions to make it better.

The way I've got it mounted to the wooden block and plate is the best I could come up with.

Couldn't the same be said of any other deck fitting?Best not to roam the decks with bare feet in any case.

Barefeet - in Scotland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My toes used to go blue when my parents took us paddling off the West Coast. Still, it was fun :-)

Rule 1 … no bare feet on board.

otherwise what about a short timber skirt over nuts counterbored under. Stick it on with a couple of dabs of goo so it’s easy to take off if need be. Beveled on edges.

I'm tidying up the epoxy stains from fitting the hardware, finishing the varnish work etc. I have machined up 2 strips of 12mmx45mm to cover the join when I re attach the wheelhouse. I'll probably put those onto the hull now, to create a place to help line up the wheelhouse.

I haven't yet fitted an eye through the stem for winching the boat onto the trailer.

To fit the eye bolt, I'd need to cut out a small section of the girder. This separates the buoyancy tanks in front of the cabin and so I would remove a small section to get a washer plate and the nut over the end of the eyebolt. It's not a huge job, I'm just wondering if it is worthwhile.

The other option I have is to use a strop round the bollard on the foredeck, led through the bow roller to attach the winch strap to.

Would a U-bolt mounted horizontally put one leg either side of the girder?I would think that using a bollard at deck height would give a less than ideal lead.

It would be an awkward pull using the deck mounted bollard.
The stem is about 35mm wide at the planks to about 25/30mm on the forward outboard edge. I think a u bolt would work but I don't mind cutting a small section of the girder out to fit a washer plate and the nut behind. I thought of using an M12 eyebolt about 200mm long. I can try to put it as close to the winch post height as I can, to keep a straight pull
