a number of years a remember a book by an author who advocated using power cruisers and maybe motor sailors instead of sailboats, even for long journeys. i thought i had a copy of the book, but now can't find it and do not remember its name or the authors name. so i thought i would ask the collective library mind here if anyone knows who i could be thinking about. thx

Robert P. Beebe's "Voyaging Under Power" and perhaps Steve and Linda Dashew's Beowulf Publishing series.
For the most part experience is making the same mistakes over and over again, only with greater confidence.

Either Beebs "Voyaging under power" or Beuhlers "The troller yacht" . Beebs is a bit more informative, but Georges book kind of pushed his own designs (nothing wrong with that), depite a lot of people not liking his boats, they are out there voyaging both power and sail.

Beebe's book also pushed his designs, as did the third edition of Voyaging Under Power by James Leishman (Nordhavn). It's more noticeable from Buehler because he does not acknowledge the existence of other designer's/builders and any prior works.

^^^ True in both cases but at least in the first edition of Beebe's book there is a great review of boats from other designers including Alden, Monk (Skookum Maru is featured), Garden, Benford, Farmer, McInnis and others. Not sure if that survived to later editions.
