Not the one the wind blew off its stand was it? I don't remember exactly what that one was.

Re: Simmons Sea Skiff 18 in Missouri
figo,
There is a wooden boat show in the fall in Southport, NC. I believe it is the first weekend in November this year. Many SSS's there every year. They even have a 'Best of Simmons' award.

Re: Simmons Sea Skiff 18 in Missouri
Hello,
I have been researching the forums on SSS18. This thread stopped on 01/04/18. Anyone have an update? Looked like things were progressing well. My father and I are about to send our Simmons 18 build to paint and was curious if anyone has suggestions on specific colors that might have been preferred by Simmons.
ThanksComment

Re: Simmons Sea Skiff 18 in Missouri
Wow! i've been gone awhile! I was having some trouble with a couple of things mostly design elements. I was struggling with weather to go with a center console or just go with tiller stearing. I've decided on tiller. The other thing was the transom top edge, it was just 3/4" plywood and didn't really match up well with the decking i installed so I finally used a 1" piece of Mahogany laminated to it and shaped then installed knees in the corners, looks much better. So I'm semi retired now, only working about 18 hours a week and the weather is cooling off a little. Hopefully I will start making progress again, I would like to launch this coming spring.

Figo, very nice build. What made you decide on a tiller? Will you use an extension and a grab post for standing? Or steer from back aft. Just curious, as I've fooled around with tiller steer ideas on several boats.

I'm a big guy and all the Simmons I've seen list to the side of the wheel. I considered center console but I could not come up with a design I like. All in all the whole design delima was holding up production. I will probably need a tiller extension but for now I am going to mount a restored 1968 Merc 200 and see how that works.Simmons Sea Skiff build photos here:

Figo... I've been away for awhile. I'm astounded by your progress. Well done! I'm like you, waiting for warmer weather. She is looking very smart in her new coat (dare I say, 'winter white'!). Looking forward to your launch. Keep us all apprised of progress with your wonderful photos.Comment

Here are a couple of simple layouts of Simmons 18's from a gathering of the boats outside Wilmington .

Figo, I'd say the 20hp is just about right. Mine has a 2006 4-stroke Merc 35 and that's almost too much power!
