I remember her in rough condition in Hurricane hole St Lucia. She had a refit after that, I think it was in Southampton, but much of the interior was built in Antigua or was it the other way around. O.K I looked it up
Following several years of chartering in the West Indies, it was decided to completely gut CARIAD I and restore her to her original style and beauty. This was commenced in Antigua, West Indies in January 1981 and, when the vessel returned to England to participate in Cowes Week in 1983, the work was completed by Southampton Yacht Services. The modification was extensive, the gimbaled table, steering gears and wheel, ship's bell and the binnacle being the only equipment reused. 35% of the hull is replaced.

I remember when she arrived in Antigua. Came over from South Africa. Was owned by a group of guys who made her ready for the trip. Robyn, (can't remember his last name even though he was at my wedding in '77. Long time ago.), stayed aboard as Capt. She had shortened masts and no topmasts in those days. Sailed on her once, she had cavernous main salon.......just reminiscing. Great to see she's still going strong.

Same place, it's where they filmed the 1960's Dr Dolittle. Seems to be built up now and it used to take a little more navigational knowledge. I'm sure there are GPS waypoints now
