The rigging that came with my boat is minimal. I will need to replace all mast hardware with the exception of sail track. Should I relace all harware on the mast and hull with modern equipement or should I try to match the "vintage" hardware on the hull? I would prefer the former as it is easiest option. Nickles Boat Works will likely get the job. I plan to use the boat for "spirited" day sail not racing. Opinions?

I went thru the same delima you are about rigging and decided to go with a more "vintage". I worked with David Nickels and went with a combination of vintage and a few extras to make life easier. I'm using a crosby traveler arrangement, 4:1 boom vang and a jib car system mounted just inside the splash guard, an adjustable back stay and a clew outhaul system. All the controls are kept in the middle of the boat rather then a complicated cabling system under the deck. By adding the extras I can de-power the sails without reefing but with the wooden spars and centered controls kept a somewhat vintage look.

If your concern is about the Antiques Road Show syndrom - You refinished this lovely old piece and now it's only worth $17 - you might consider that race machines are pretty much never pristine. They've been redone/tweeked more or less continuously since first constructed. Unless there's some sort of historical (hysterical?)value, I'd rig her as seems worthwhile to me [img]smile.gif[/img]

Hi Mike V, don't overlook the qualities of rope/sheets. I find this is a real weak point on many boats.
The amount of stretching of poor quality sheets, is a real disappointment. Since you mentioned spirited, the sheets can be the devil.
