finished up the bowstem last night and started planing down the ends of the 3/8 ply for the scarph.

Around Christmas, I was trying to decide on a power planer or a smooth bench plane to do the scarphs..... I went with the smooth bench plane, and glad I did. Although I probably could have knocked out the whole scarph in 30 min with the power plane, I found that hand planing is quite enjoyable. I spent about 45-60 min on the planing last night, and am about 2/3 done. I probably could have finished it up, but I wanted to be 'fresh' so as to get the scarph nice and even.

    regards,

Power tools are nice for some applications, but doing things by "hand" can be much quieter and more enjoyable. Power tools can do a lot of damage fast if you're not careful!
