frame kits-simmons sea skiff

does anyone know if a source exists for frame kits to set up a simmons sea skiff-i know they are out there for bartenders but would like to build a simmons-please email me if any sources are found-thanks

Why would you want to build a Simmons instead of a Bartender? I'm truly curious. . . . .

why?-well the 20 foot simmons is a lot of boat-great for any offshore fishing i want to do-stellwagen etc.-granted bartenders are a fine boat as well but you gotta know your limitations and i only have so many boats left in me-

I would think that a good CNC man could generate a .dxf cut file from a table of offsets. Slap that into the CNC router and go to town.

hi erster-i'll move or cancel the other thread-i'm looking for any set-up help that may be available for a simmons-i have plans for the 20' model-i'm sure i can build it with little if any problem-any help?-

The plans are as detailed and self help as any set thats out there. Each measurement is there and the building of a jig also is clearly shown. Transfer the numbers to plain old luan plywood and then lay the frames out on the material of your choice, placing them accordingly so that you make use of all the materials.

This is how its done. I suggest that you only use the measurements for the side frames as a baseline. After you plank the boat using four points for stretchers inside the boat that keeps both sides rigid when bending the planks, then also make patterns for the side frames and also do the same. The foward ones will have some extreme angles. So make you patterns according to the long point of the flare sides. The foward most frames will have a flat space. You can also do this to all your templates or just measure from the centerline and make the frames with the vee bottom. This is a safe bet for me as I never really know what material I will be doing as is the same with most folks too in certain areas.

I am not sure of whats going on here Hank. But all the information that you are requesting can be provided right here on this forum and in this section and thread. There are several other sections that are provided here to ask others also on the building and construction technigues of the Simmons. I have provided you plenty of chances in a couple of threads to also open up a discusion on the Simmons.


There is nothing special in the building of the Simmons that any person thats here also cannot answer dealing with lapstrake construction too. The fellow that drew up the plans also post on this forum when he sees the needs to also reply on the topic of the Simmons. Ask and you will receive more than enough information. Please do not send me any more mails directly and then ask me to reply by e-mail. The time that it takes to do so you can ask here and numerous others can also beneift at the same time too which will also generate other responses too. Thank you.
