Damn, another attack of boat lust to fight off . . .
'bout a year ago I was on the verge of moving to the S. Carolina coast and almost started building one of these...ended up staying ~Chicago for now so was thinking of something else more appropriate toe the region...after seeing this article I'm starting to think I should find a way to use this boat regardless of where I live...
I rebuilt an original Simmons 18 once for a friend. He used it a fair bit on Lake Michigan in reasonable weather and it worked quite well. As I remember, he put a 25 horse Yamaha on it and it seemed to be enough to make it do what it was supposed to do. Considering how light and easy to launch/trailer/store and maintain the boat was, how well it performed and how seaworthy it seemed, I can't see how anybody wouldn't enjoy having one, even in Chicago.
