Oh everyone lighten up. They are just teasing you I believe Kerry. But maybe a little too much. We love your boat and your thread and want to see this lovely in the water. So forgive us our longing. Let's shake hands and take a deep breath and exhale slowly. If no one cared about your thread, you would just get silence so, in a way, it is a compliment to get harassed to post us some pics.

Absolutely. Well said, I am happy somebody mentioned this. I was discussing this very fortunate for me, interest, last night with the Mrs. It is surely only the result of a good thing. I never doubted that and I am grateful for all of your interest, which not only surprised me at the beginning of this jouurney, but knocked me clean off my feet when I got her in the water. FWIW, I feel worse than any of you, for not having material to post, but it only makes me feel how worthwhile it will be when I buy a camera shortly.
And for anyone that missed it, my last camera sits on the mud in the riverbottom somewhere, full of video from my first ever sail in Further. I reserve the right to feel that pain, for myself. Thank you.

    I believe brother, I believe!

Did we ever discuss the sail slides in a wooden bolt rope groove before. Because I have to say that regardless of the inevitable, 'I rigged my 10 ft dinghy that way and used it twice a year in 3 gusting 4 knots of wind and it worked fine' person who always manages to pop up, it never was going to work. Or for long anyway.

For your boat Kerry, you've either got to stick to the pain of feeding the bolt rope in or change to a light track with plastic slides. Usually you'll find metal slides at the head of the sail and at the reef points, which gives you an insight as to where the point loading on a bermudan sail is. ( where it'll try to rip the track off, tear out the bolt rope groove.) The places where you might consider engraving in a harder wood fillet than spruce/ oregon to better hold the screws under tension.

Marco, if you go back through this thread, you will find the plans for the Folkboat. You can see the main sheet post in the plans.

Hello, it's the Mrs. again. Wouldn't you know it, as soon as Kerry got his new camera he got sick, sick as a dog. He's been in bed for the past few days, doing nothing but sleeping. In a moment of semi-consciousness tonight he asked me to post a message here, and he also asked for Chinese food...didn't see that coming. I think he's over the worst of it now.

Emily, you can see from THIS what most Kiwis are really like - downright horrible. Take care of yours, he's a bit special. That's why he went as far away as possible. A lot of them come here for the same reason, so we've got some nice ones too. My wife escaped from Takapuna at a young age. Be good to yours - imagine what his upbringing must have been like!

We never worry too much about the ones that 'escape' as their departure does two things - it raises the average intelligence level here & in the country they move to

Yes, I know that one and laughed my head off when I heard Piggy say it back in ..... God, when was it? I think he said raises the average IQ of both nations. It was in response to a question raised rather impolitely by an Aussie journalist when he visited here. The question was - was he concerned about everyone coming over here? It was when you guys were all wearing t-shirts about the last one to leave turning the lights off.

    Thanks for the memory!

I have not been that ill for some time. Nasty crap. It is relieving to find the immune system can still combat that stuff unaided. Hey knock it off with the antibiotics everyone. It is making bugs tougher to deal with you know. Whew.
I got a video somewhere and have been trying to edit the thing. Compatibility problems are forcing me to maybe just buy some editing software that just deals with everything to everything and be done with it.
    I'll be back.

You guys (and the good mrs Kiwi) made me laugh till I nearly spewed. Forget the video, I can't see video in this silly country anyway, just put up some pics for chrissakes. Maybe the boat did sink. I hope not-this has been a great thread, and an amazing project.

Nah, its just a short collection of mid sized working vessels punching through some serious water. I thought it was rather moving with the music and all.

On a lighter note, I whole heartedly second Rick's call for sail track and the abandonment of the worn luft groove.Plane the bugger right off flush, seal your freshly exposed wood and go with some nice stainless steel sail track. You may also wish to lay a new batten down over where the groove used to be,just so that you get to screw the sail track into tighter/different grain.Don't forget also to only put a screw in every second hole. That way, way down the road, whenever you're up to wooding your mast, you will have fresh new wood to drive your sail track screws into.

Keep a weather eye out for Rick too......he's hungry for head gear!

    Cheers!

    Peter
I was thinking of, when I am over this damn bug, taking ye olde router and buzzing a groove down the guts of the planed area and filling it with epoxy. Better grip, no rot.
Or even just planing enough of the both sides of the groove to accomodate the track in width and filling the existing groove with epoxy.
But there is other more important stuff to do beforehand.

OK so there's a Mrs Kiwi. Or at least 2 people doing a wedding. Mate we want to see a pic of the boat in water, preferably sailing, you at the tiller, huge smile on your face, Mrs K handing up a fresh beer, one rail almost under, spray flying, maybe a porpoise leaping from the water just for the fun of the thing....

I don't do too well with guessing what people really mean when they are being multifaceted. I need to have it spelled out for me . Duh.

And Rick, whats with this head gear thing you got goin on with Tenner? Are you guys involved in some trans continental weather arguement or something similar? I do like the topic of meteorology.

The headgear issue? Beats me. That Lemonhead's been going on about it for ages. I have no idea what he's on about. I think he has a hat fetish. Caused by vitamin D deficiency I think.

I have a horrible feeling that Kiwi is putting on a brave face. I am worried that maybe things did not turn out too well. If so mate, you have my genuine sympathy, it was a huge and bold project, you did incredibly well to stick with it to the end. Hopefully it is indeed the journey rather than the end that really matters. It was a great ride. I think you can be justly proud, whatever the outcome.
