I wish.....
Thanks to everyone for the great responses. The reactions to this stout little vessel have all been very positive.
Here are a few shots of her rigged up on her way home from Port Townsend.
I figured out a way I could steer her with just my weight under tow... pretty cool... she is incredibly limber.
I have some more photos of her under sail, but as you can imagine, the first day out is the first day of rigging adjustments. I will find some time to post photos and detail some of her characteristics. I will also regale you with tales of her splendor under sail.
... and it is true - this 6 meter:
... but she will get her own thread...

Good gracious! How on earth did I miss this thread until now!?!
I really ought to have been paying better attention. I saw her at the dock in Port Townend and everything too.
Ah well, better late than never. What a great thread to read right before going off to bed. . . To dream of building beautiful little boats!
Amphibious Macroplankton Oughtredia doublendus
Mostly found frequenting the littoral and estuarine zones in the southern half of the Salish Sea, though sightings have been recorded both north and south of this area, and occasionally, but rarely, inland, in freshwater environments. This species lives on micro-brewed beer and dutch-oven biscuits, and displays brightly colored nylon and gore-tex plumage during the rainy season. Approach with caution!
Beautiful work. congratulation.
When you get time, please post more pictures.

That picture deserves to be on the cover of our favorite magazine even if Bengi didn't shoot it!!!
Let's start a petition for Scot.

This boat was built with ten thumbs. No fingers were harmed in anyway.
I second that motion!
I'll third it! And fourth and fifth it if need be!

Just got these sailing shots via e-mail today:

Ooooo, nice. It'd be even nicer if he had the inner and outer jibs and staysail up rather than just the single jib.
Indeed. That shot will come this spring. We raced out the door to make PT after launch, but this year we will have all her canvas in order.
I hope to get some video up here as well.
Alex
Just lovely, Alex, a real treat for the eyes.
Remember now...always take the picture from leeward.![]()
What a gorgeous gal. Very jealous. What do they call that in the boating world? Bowsprit envy? I'm either mixing up my metaphors, my genders, or both. Nevertheless I'm green with envy.
Can't wait to see her full spread of canvas this spring!!!

Just discover this thread and spend a few hours reading it from the start. Nice quality work!
Love the design & the lines!
Such a lovely little ship. She pulls at the heart strings and begs men to spend time on the water.
Since I left me, my life has been so much more peaceful as I am not here to make myself feel stupid or silly for the things I've said or done.![]()
Absolutely beautiful !!! A REAL one !![]()
Perfect is the enemy of good.
This was a fun thread to follow. I'd pretty much forgotten about til now..
What a gorgeous little boat.
Bravo Alex.
What a beautiful boat. She is stunning!
I need to read this thread complete. I skimmed over it but it's obviously a classic.
Just found this thread and I have to admit that I'm totally stunned.
I really like your "classic" approach of building the vessel (almost) without epoxy and without glass. The whole progress just seems to be so organic and all the wood seem to fit just naturally.
One question remains: Why don't more people build boats like yours?
Great to see this back up and with sailing pics
Enjoy your sailing Alex
Hooray! Very lovely. Just one question: When do we get to see a topsail?
Alright now I'm motivated. Back to the shop with me.

Awesome mate. Absolutely divine.
Say, I dunno about here in the Nth Hemisphere but in NZ a cockle is a shellfish and I remember, and again reminded now with these photos, looking at the shape of her hull and seeing the resemblance to two halves of a cockles shell clasped together. I wonder if that is how the name came about?
Or perhaps it is just so obvious that nobody has bothered to mention it.
..don't judge a man till you've walked a mile in his shoes..
I enthusiastically second the comment about seeing the this pretty little lady with her topsail. Bring on the boat porn!
"And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by..."
This shot is terribly alluring! Shame she wasn't flying more cloth and headed the same way as the vessel in the background. The water looks like crumpled aluminium foil and the distant mountains but clouds on a limitless sea.
Happy Holidays Alex!
Cheers!
Peter, looking forward to more photos come next summer........

Really great boat and thread! I find it kinda funny that it looked SO big in the construction phase and then so little on the water. Don't take this the wrong way, she's a very beautiful boat and your construction of her is just unreal to me. It' just I have a hard time judging the size of boats being fairy new to this all.
Again, GREAT JOB on the Boat and the thread, I hope to see it and you all in Port Townsend this summer.
