Thanks to everyone for the great responses. The reactions to this stout little vessel have all been very positive.

Here are a few shots of her rigged up on her way home from Port Townsend.

I figured out a way I could steer her with just my weight under tow... pretty cool... she is incredibly limber.

I have some more photos of her under sail, but as you can imagine, the first day out is the first day of rigging adjustments. I will find some time to post photos and detail some of her characteristics. I will also regale you with tales of her splendor under sail.

... and it is true - this 6 meter:

... but she will get her own thread...

Good gracious! How on earth did I miss this thread until now!?!

I really ought to have been paying better attention. I saw her at the dock in Port Townend and everything too.

Ah well, better late than never. What a great thread to read right before going off to bed. . . To dream of building beautiful little boats!

Mostly found frequenting the littoral and estuarine zones in the southern half of the Salish Sea, though sightings have been recorded both north and south of this area, and occasionally, but rarely, inland, in freshwater environments. This species lives on micro-brewed beer and dutch-oven biscuits, and displays brightly colored nylon and gore-tex plumage during the rainy season. Approach with caution!

Ooooo, nice. It'd be even nicer if he had the inner and outer jibs and staysail up rather than just the single jib.

Indeed. That shot will come this spring. We raced out the door to make PT after launch, but this year we will have all her canvas in order.

I hope to get some video up here as well.

What a gorgeous gal. Very jealous. What do they call that in the boating world? Bowsprit envy? I'm either mixing up my metaphors, my genders, or both. Nevertheless I'm green with envy.

Can't wait to see her full spread of canvas this spring!!!

Such a lovely little ship. She pulls at the heart strings and begs men to spend time on the water.

That shot promised back in post #412 never did come. It is next spring I believe down there in the other hemisphere.

What a beautiful boat. She is stunning!

I need to read this thread complete. I skimmed over it but it's obviously a classic.

Just found this thread and I have to admit that I'm totally stunned.

I really like your "classic" approach of building the vessel (almost) without epoxy and without glass. The whole progress just seems to be so organic and all the wood seem to fit just naturally.

One question remains: Why don't more people build boats like yours?

Time and money, or they feel more confident working with epoxy methods, which take less skill and can be faster, I guess.

Last photo in #420 is absolutely brilliant. You should submit some of those shots to National Geographic.

Alright now I'm motivated. Back to the shop with me.

    Awesome mate. Absolutely divine.
Say, I dunno about here in the Nth Hemisphere but in NZ a cockle is a shellfish and I remember, and again reminded now with these photos, looking at the shape of her hull and seeing the resemblance to two halves of a cockles shell clasped together. I wonder if that is how the name came about?

Or perhaps it is just so obvious that nobody has bothered to mention it.

Really great boat and thread! I find it kinda funny that it looked SO big in the construction phase and then so little on the water. Don't take this the wrong way, she's a very beautiful boat and your construction of her is just unreal to me. It' just I have a hard time judging the size of boats being fairy new to this all.

Again, GREAT JOB on the Boat and the thread, I hope to see it and you all in Port Townsend this summer.
