    Default Vang issues

    Hello,

I've tried searching for articles in the forum about boom-vangs and , to my surprise, there were none.

So, I'm trying to devise a vang for my performance dinghy but it needs to be low-cost and powerful. A lever vang fits this description, but it may not have enough travel for this sort of rig (unstayed, very flexible). To address the travel issue, I've roughly designed a "cam" vang, in which a cam with a radius that is equal to an appropriate lever replaces the lever. Has anyone ever heard of such a device?

I don't want to spend a fortune on blocks, which is why I want to use a lever of some sort. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Oops! with another search attempt, I turned up an earlier thread on this subject. Disregard my previous post if you like, or feel free to add something that wasn't covered in the earlier thread.

    Thanks.

For a small boat, a perfectly working, easy to use, vang can be had out of two 1/4" blocks and a cam cleat, so it won't cost very much. I prefer this type--one that uses a line and blocks--since it's easy to adjust in small increments, and easy release to avoid a wreck.
