last night I was test fitting all my parts from the rudder packing box down to the skeg bar. Packing box bolted in and rudder slipped in and temporarily held with a shaft collar. Now when I went to fit the skeg bar on it wasn't lining up properly and had to force it in place over the pintle. tightened the skeg bar bolts by hand only. Turned the rudder by hand and could feel it binding and noticed the skeg bar moving from side to side. Removed everything and brought the rudder to work with me. I inspected it on a surface plate with the 1" shaft end supported on 2 v blocks and stacked up a set of gage blocks until they just came into contact with the 7/8" pintle. Rotated the rudder 180 degrees and the pintle shaft was about 3/16"-1/4" off. The 2 shafts appear to be parallel and the pintle shaft 1/4" off center from the shaft. My question is - has anyone else ever experienced this problem and does anyone know what the tolerence should be of the 2 shafts center alignment. I sent an email tonight to the supplier to have it replaced and inspected before shipped to me. I'd rather not mention names to be fair unless they refuse to replace.
