This morning I was laminating with thickened epoxy and when I was done I had some left over and needed to fill the counter sunk screw heads that I used to edge fasten. However the epoxy mix I was using was thickened to a peanut butter consistency and I needed more of a pancake batter mix to fill the holes. Since this wasn’t a strength critical application I decided to try adding some acetone to the epoxy to try and thin it out (what’s the harm with a little chemistry experiment?). Well it worked, increased the pot life of the batch as well. I’m wondering though how the curing and strength characteristics will be effected. I don’t know of any literature on this but it does seem to be a useful trick in the right application.
