"In 1908, William C. Atwater, asked Benjamin Hallock of Center Moriches, to design and build a sloop of 16', with mainsail, club jib and no ballast."
"Nine boats were built for the 1909 season."

Do you have one, Larry?
My son does Jim. that's him in the first picture. Hull #72 built in 1928.
Dam, I'll have to fix that. Not getting any pictures, Larry. The thread's a bit skimpy without them.
It's Casper, his crew and his boat?

Hi Larry,
E-mail me the pics and I'll try to post them. I was hoping some from the event would be sent around to the folks on the SS list but it hasn't happened yet. I think there must be some fantastic photos from this. I think 31 boats actually raced including one or two from 1908. I hope someone got a few of Billy's smiling face.

Larry, I think kodakgallery is for sharing pictures via email only. I had joined up and uploaded some photos but couldn't find any URL to link to forums/websites, so I stopped using it.
This is what I get when clicking on your koakgallery links,

I was visiting my buddy Fred over at his boatyard yesterday. His dad's part of the business is boat building, and I spotted this fleet of SS Sloops in storage and thought I'd share. ( hes also got a sharpie in build in the shed, and a just restored 1970 Arno Day lobsterboat)
These are not for sale and I would have no interest or gain if they were. Enjoy.

This new ship here is fitted according to the reported increase of knowledge among mankind. Namely, she is cumbered end to end with bells and trumpets and clocks and wires. It has been told to me she can call voices out of the air or the waters to con the ship while her crew sleep. But sleep though lightly. It has not yet been told to me that the sea has ceased to be the sea.--Rudyard Kipling
Some more...
I'm a novice sailor, but these boats sure are a combination of pretty shapes. Enjoy.

Thanks Kevin. Are all the SS boats wooden? Some of your pics just show black with a big !.
Yes, John, as far as I know all SS Sloops are wood. All of those shown were wood for sure The pics were taken with iPhone and inside, late in the afternoon. Sorry for the so-so quality.

Nice looking boats, It's great that there is such a big fleet of them. Many new builds?
I dont think so. Most are quite old and passed down in families, friends, etc.
I am no expert. They are just a local boat. I know there are others who posted above on this thread who ARE experts ( Larry P, Holzbt, etc).

These are gorgeous. Are the plans available? How much do they weigh? They seem to have a lot in common with the Mellonseed, do they share any heritage? Capt. Z.
