Anybody been to the National Museum of the American Indian? There be three boats in the lobby, and the wooden one confuses me.
It looks like some sort of pacific outrigger canoe, but it seems to be made of really tightly joined 'block' planks cut at all sorts of angles, like a mosaic of wood. It must have went together like a jigsaw puzzle.
Is there a word for this kind of construction? And how was this sort of joinery possible? Be interesting to know.
