    Default Mahogany plywood

Need a close substitute for Philippine mahogany plywood. To be used on the Exterior...of my cabin. Sepeli is much darker than what is on board.

Spar lumber is "No Mas". No listing by calling 411. Googled Spar lumber in Long Beach Ca called the number and it is no longer in service. Long Beach plywood has Sepeli in exterior glue but no Honduran. Any thing close to the "Old" Philippine mahogany

The "old Philippine mahogany" is a group of mahogany look a like species. They are not true mahogany. It's anybodies guess what the wood actually is that you're trying to match. If it's reddish, take a look at Meranti.

If it's Phillipine stripe, you may not be able to duplicate the look. It has the light colored areas running with the grain. I had to replace both bulkheads along-side my cabin door to get them to look alike.

Theworkbench.com has several different flavors, including ribbon-stripe, of mahogany. Send them a couple photos and see what they can do for you.

    Ooooohh!

I'm sorry to lose the place. They used to have everything (almost).

Have you tried Ganahl Lumber in Los Alamitos? They used to be Barr Lumber, and actually, Ganahl might be old now. They have surprised me with aircraft and marine grade ply.

Ouch,Ouch,Ouch......Found the last remaining piece of 4x8x1/2" ribbon sapeli on the planet or at least in Southern California..At Long Beach plywood. Marine Grade AA grade with beautiful red brown color and ribbon striping. Found a few places that had this plywood in 3/4" or 1/4" but nobody but L.B. plywood stocked 1/2".. odd..Grain is a match to the Philippine mahogany on board just darker. The ouch factor was 167.00 bucks plus tax.. Oh well you only get one chance to do it right.

Happy fathers day to all in advance.

Im replacing both bulkhead sides aswell. Now Ive got to sand down the cabin door and try to stain to match the sapeli then re-varnish.

will be making templates out of 1/8" door skins to check the fit prior to cutting the expensive sapeli.

Checkout sign painter's board - mahogany faced ply in all sorts of thicknesses, waterproof, with solid core veneers. I picked up some a couple of years ago for (I think) about $60.00 per 4x8 1/2"sheet.
The stuff is supposed to last a long time - 20+? years outdoors.
The outer skins on mine are fairly thick and very smooth
