Default Building a Nutshell pram with my daughter

We reached a milestone tonight with our 9'6" Nutshell Pram project. My 15 year old daughter and I are building her as a tender to Talisman. It was a pretty big day here, Gavin graduated from High School this morning and then the youngest had her Middle School Spring Concert. And then we turned over the Nutshell.

Congratulations are in order, indeed!! The feeling cannot be put into words when working with an offspring and reaching a milestone! Enjoy the time spent, too, as they grow up too fast.
The boat is rock solid, but needs work.

Thats cool Steven. Getting close now.

If you need that rubrail material I had left over from Zippy, I took it out to Zephyrus, so you can grab it when you and the girls come out to visit us on the boat.

    Excellent, Steven!

When I built my pram, my daughter was five, and she did most of the decorative painting. Tha pram is gray and has a very large shark mouth. We called it 'Nipper'.

Cedar! Those are the mahogany cockpit seats from Talisman waiting for some varnish.

I'll drag down some cedar, though, and bring it up tomorrow.

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. We cleaned out the interior tonight and rough cut the four quarter knees. Then the centerboard trunk, then the rubrails, then.....

Last night I was showing my pirogue progress to my daughter. She asked me if she could take her dog Ember for a ride with her in the boat. I told her, "No, but you can take Ember for a ride in your own pirogue that we build together."

Nice post, great photos. Keep 'em coming!

    Congratulations to both of you.

My daughter, Lori stepped up to help (without even being asked) when I was building my shop so I can guess what a great memory this will be for both of you.

    Great Post!

I've had a rough day that has included a fire damaged building, insurance adjusters, zoning and code enforcement officers, a dirty grimy soot covered inventory, canceled deliveries, bank problems and little sleep. I'm now on my way to a night class in International Business where I have a presentation due that I haven't really properly prepared for and is probably one of the last places I want to be (I mean what University schedules a class for Friday night?)

    Your post made my day.

Thanks for posting it and thanks to your daughter for her obvious glee!

Way to go on a great project. I am to do the same with my son after summer is out and school starts again. When his girlfriend that keeps calling asks him what he wants out of this 'relationship', I hope he says "sandpaper. . .lots and lots of sandpaper".
