From The Peninsula Daily News Tuesday April 15th:

    "Obituary

    Rolly Herbert
    March 26, 1935-April 8, 2008

Port Townsend, WA resident Rolly Herbert, a former relief Captain for the "Lady Washington", died in Bremerton of pneumonia. He was 73. He was born in Sydney, Australia, to Cyril and Marie A. (Long) Herbert. As a boy he and two brothers worked on a farm in Australia's Southern Highlands, milking cows and feeding chickens. He also became an accomplished horseman. At 14 the call of the sea led him to become a deck boy on voyages to Honolulu and Vancouver, British Columbia. Mr Herbert served in the Army in Australia, he became an officer in the Merchant Marine and served in the Coast Guard. His marriage to Maggie Cox produced two sons but ended in divorce.

He married Grace Libby Donahue aboard the "Windjammer" in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, on January 29, 1978. While in Lahaina, he Captained many day charters as well as overnighters, whale watching trips, "booze cruises" and diving trips. Capt. Herbert, who greatly enjoyed the tourist industry, also spent summers skippering small cruise ships out of Juneau, Alaska.
On two occasions he delivered the tall ship "Lady Washington" to southern California.

During their 30 years of marriage, he and his wife traveled the South Pacific, Virgin Islands, British Virgin islands and Puerto Rico.
After buying a recreational vehicle, they toured the united States before settling in Port Townsend in 1995.

Services were held at Ft Worden State Park Commons on april 12"
