Default Party Boat, California to NZ/AUS

Now that it's officially winter, I propose the following:

Let's all load up our cars with tailgate food and sleeping bags, and meet at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego.

    (I'll be in the bar).
Then we pull this up to the beach, drive aboard and go visit JB, Dingo etc.

    A (very) unofficial Woodenboat Tour.

    Shouldn't take long....

I got a much betterer idea.....

Forget the cars. We have cars here. They (mostly) have the steering wheel on the right side. So you can rent cars. Rental cars are the best, they can do anything.

    Oh,the idea?

Load that ugly barge up with nice wooden boats and make it a real wooden boat tour. Sorta like the rich people do with their big yachts.
    It'd be a hoot.
We don't know how lucky we are....

Ya! And with a prop at each end and dual steering stations, we won't even have to turn it around to get home!

I propose we drive a few Winnebagos aboard (we'll need someplace to party...and pee... on the trip!!), and a diesel tanker (fuel to make it to Dingo's, JB's, seanz, etc.).

OK....we're in (if you're doin a head count....first come, first served type thing).

New Zealand is just a few miles from OZ, right?

Dingo can drive down to Hobart in a couple of hours.

There's probably enough room there to set up a bowling lane or two. You know. In case we get bored on the trip south.

No point in coming down here, we are all going to the north pole to see Santa.

All good, but the ferry is in NY. So it's the other way around the world.

Hummm... here are some pics from the Glorietta Bay anchorage across from the Hotel Del. We anchored here yesterday afternoon (12/23) and will leave on Christmas morning. Great view of the hotel all lit up with Christmas lights...and the golf course to the east...and only company in the anchorage are a duck and one cruising boat.

Life is good. Now if we were only on our wooden schooner rather than our little Rawson 30....ah...that's next Christmas!

A mere quibble, sir, but it would be more convenient to stop in the Middle East for gas so it's probably the best route in the end.

You know. I bet no one has ever taken a car ferry around Cape Horn.

Why would anyone even try it?
