Default Need help with my cracked rudder

Hi All, this past summer, I was going in reverse and got going toooo fast and the tiller was ripped out of my hands. When I pulled the boat last saturday, I saw a crack going from the top of the rudder to the bottom of the rudder. in the prop hole, I can see the crack goes half way across. (I will post pictures tomorrow) It is a full keel boat and the rudder five food tall and about two and one half foot deep and about two inches thick. Is this fixable or do I need to build a new rudder? Thanks for your help. Cheers.

Sorry to hear about the crack. But yes, it is most likely fixable either with several drifts through the blade or metal stapping let into the blade sides. Will wait for your pictures, as they will surely make it crystal clear to all the precise nature of the crack.
    Keep a good thought!

Likely with drifts and/or straps. Edge boring for drifts is an interesting challenge.

You are LUCKY it was ripped from your hands. If it had gone the other way it would have broken your ribs or worse.
    Of coarse it is fixable.

I'm starting a similar rudder repair. We should compare notes and give each other a hand. I'm not far from you (Port Lambton).
PM me if your interested in some form of collaberation.

Hi All, went to the boat yesterday to tarp it up for the winter and when I broke the camera out to take pics, the battaries were dead. I am going back out there tomorrow and will post pics then. Cheers.
