Nice, Phil! I like the breasthook. The colour is very cool & tasteful.

I think you'll wish you'd put on the spray rails, though. When the boat's loaded, the guys in front can get a little damp.

I'm pretty pleased with the 25 hp. Pay some attention to prop pitch...it's a very light boat, and you don't want revs to go too high.

Or, so I'm told.

The 25 hp motor would probably overpower my Diablo considerably... but, gawdallmighty, it'd go fast!!!

The only front seat occupants will be a couple of my daughter's Barbie dolls and, personally, I think they look great wet!!

PS. Bruce, on the chance that you haven't figured it out yet...that Diablo is only 30 inches long. If I may brag, though... it IS a pretty accurate scale model.

This isn't my work. My uncle Ben built this model from the full size plans for his dory, the one I'll be building. He didn't have the center console on the full size boat, and I plan to stick with a tiller motor as well.

A great little boat built by the greatest Uncle a guy ever had...



(And, I kinda like showing off my daughter a bit, as well... hope you guys don't mind.)

Well for some reason this blasted machine won't let me see your boat. I did see the pictures of the dory though. What is it? FWIW, I think it's grand that you want to show off your kids.

Lowell, the dory was designed by George Calkins many years ago... wish I knew exactly but sometime between 1946 and the mid 50's. It's 20' long. The WB 163 article on George briefly mentioned these boats on pages 30 - 31. Not fast, but quite seaworthy.

Don't know why you couldn't see the Diablo pics. And, yepper, I'm pretty proud of my gang!

Saw the pics this time Phil. GREAT model!! I'm sure your diablo will look great. I only hope mine turns out as nice as your model!

Calkins sure drew some nice boats. I'm a BIG fan of his Bartender. I'm sure any dory that he drew is really worthy of note too. The one in this thread sure has nice lines from what I can see. Do you know of any sites that would have this boat full size?

Lowell, I'm not entirely sure this is a Calkins dory, but it's the only thing close on the 'net I've been able to find. Belongs to a Howard Perkins, whom I've been unsuccessful contacting.


Somewhere in one of my computers I have another photo of this boat beached... when I find it I'll pass it along.
