Yeah those plank lines look a bit suss. It reminds me of a rebuilt counter I saw on a yacht in NZ which had grooves moulded in so that if you glimpsed it at dusk from a distance and you were drunk it looked sort of like it was planking.
Are these good sea boats? I ask because someone tongue in cheek suggested I buy that yellow and blue yacht attributed to Herreshoff what was up on ebay recently, and sail it to NZ. It planted a seed in my mind...
PS someone should drill a hole in that gin palace in the second picture
I have never heard of a John Alden design that wasnt good.
I dont know that I would take a Malabar Jr around the world, but for SF bay or Puget Sound it would be perfect.

Isn't it funny that us woodies spend so much time trying to hide the plank seams while there are all of those plastic cruisers out there with big huge "faux seams."
Its like David Kasanof said:
"if ya got seams - hide em, if ya dont got seams - make em"
...or something like that.

There's a 65' gin palace on the marina near me - its owned by a local billionaire and is used mainly for him to take his daughter down river to jetski. I keep telling my son to wave whenever they go past. No interest yet.PS someone should drill a hole in that gin palace in the second picture
Carpe the living sh!t out of the Diem
Maybe he could get some interest by rescuing her from a sinking boat? Not that I would condone such a thing myself. (Such a boat could prove a hazard to navigation!)
I guess Bob Cleek didnt see this.
It says she has to be gone this week. I wish I could get down there...

I wonder if this could be another deal like that Knudsen 35...

Yea, that's the "San Rafael Triangle." I'll try to get down to the harbor this weekend and take a look at her. She looks clean in the picture. NorPac brokerage (Kermit Parker's old outfit) doesn't generally list junk. She may be a distress sale. Who knows? On the other hand, if she needs something major, that's not an outrageously low price for a small boat like that.
The ad says she has new keel bolts. You would think that if you replaced the keelboats you would definately know if something else was majorly wrong and have fixed that too.
Maybe not...its just a hunch.

Never mind Bob. The boat is gone. Just got an email back from a guy at the marina and he said that the owner had to sell fast she she is gone.
Probably went for cheap.
