I have just tried a "standard" vane type wind indicator at the top of the gaff on my Penobscot 14. Didn't work very well primarily because the gaff doesn't really get straight up against the mast (close but not quite getting the vane level, seems to hang up) and the gaff rotates some with sail trim.
So what suggestions would you have for a masthead fly that would work on the gunter rig on the Penobscot and be usefull to a relatively novice sailor.
