Half Model

I live in Marietta, GA., and was hoping some kind soul in my area might be willing to help me finish a teak, mostly-done half model. I would be most grateful . I need lots of good advice!

I started with models. Now I am up to 45 feet. I am also down in Macon. What's your problem?

While I don't live in your area, mabey the following will help you on your way:

- Teak is technically a hard wood but it really isn't all that hard so when you sand take it easy until you get the feel of the wood. What makes people think that teak is very hard is that it has alot of silicon in it (hard on edged tools and sand paper).

- The whole point of a half model is to show the FAIR lines of the design. When you are in the final stages of sanding, you need to check for fairness constantly. Do it the same way a boatbuilder does it; with templates and a batten.

My suggestion would to be to determine if there are any ship model building groups in your area. If so, they would be glad to help.
Ask around and check with local model supply retailers as well as the phone book. Don't forget the internet too.
