    Default Motor bracket question

I've decided to replace my ageing transom hung aluminum out board motor bracket for one with springs to assist in lifting. My motor is a 75lb 7.5 h.p. 4 stroke Honda. Garelick make a motor bracket for motors up to 20 h.p and 115lbs but they state quite clearly that this is NOT for 4 stroke motors. Does anyone know any reason why I shouldn't use this bracket?

Garelick also makes several mounts for 4 stroke engines. In looking at their website, I couldn't readily tell why they specify 2 or 4 stroke as the ones I looked at, all operated on a vertical plane.

You can call them and ask:

It's all about weight. The countersprings are designed to work with motors of certain weight ranges. 4-strokes are heavier, so they need stronger brackets with heavier springs.

Don't get one rated too far from the actual weight of your motor, as it can be really hard to push down into the lowest position if the springs are too stiff/heavy and the motor too light.
