    Default Bevel gauge

I'm trying to make a bevel gauge the way the old guys did. Two pieces of hacksaw blade fastened at the end. Does anyone know what to use? Nut and bolt? rivet? something else. Everything I've tried is too tight or too loose. Saw something about this online, Compass Rose Review maybe, but can't find it again. Any ideas appreciated.
For those who don't know Compass Rose Review is put together by the guy who used to write On the Waterfront. He is also editor of Maine Boats Homes Harbors magazine and has an online column on their site.

Harry Bryan had an article in WoodenBoat last year on making bevel guages (#189). Just follow his instructions.

Sounds like you are talking about Peter Spectre.

I've seen copper rivet used for this. You just tap the head until you get the desired amount of tension. If it losens up you can just retap. Greg Rossel mentions it in "buidling small boats' I think.

Wire solder works as does a roofing nail clipped to the right length.

I used a simple flathead machine screw and a nut. You can always use the screw head side which is flat, and the teeth on the hacksaw are pretty convenient to hold things in place.

    Copper Rivet!

Make the slot just a skoch thinner than the blade so it is a nice tight fit.
