I visited the factory in Durham, NC where they make those when we were doing a project for U.S. EPA on boat manufacturing. The boats are rotomolded from powdered plastic in a heated mold. They kept a baseball bat next to one of the boats in the lobby. They guy who was showing the EPA around picked up the bat and smashed it down onto the gunwale of the boat. Not a mark. At the time (mid 1990s), they were marketing aggressively to the boat livery business.
