    Default The witch's familiar

What do folk's know about this tale? The reason I ask is that I just recently read that a cat with many toes is supposed to be given to it. Of course, they are also supposed to be great ship's cats and mousers.

But seriously, if you believe in it or not, what do you know? No Googling.
So many questions, so little time.

some old timers believe animals were possessed by a spirit and that one could attract the spirit and their particular powers by acting like animals, dressing in animal furs , feathers , horns and wearing whiskers and tails and preening themsleves

Both my cats have extra digits. Tarzan has 7 toes on each paw, and Hercules has 7 on each front paw, and 6 on each back paw. Talk about snowshoes!

Read a book a long time ago titled Hostage to the Devil by a Jesuit priest named Malachai Martin. About (supposedly) true accounts of American exorcisms. In one of the stories -- if I recall correctly it was about someone who was "perfectly" possessed -- the possessed man had a familiar. But it wasn't an animal. It was some sort of dwarf human-like incarnation of an evil spirit.

    Spooky book.

I've had multi-toed cats, called "Hemingway cats" in some circles.
As I recall, Hemingway cats are black and white and have a black mustache(seriously).
Don't know about the witchery aspect of the cats.
