I'll join you in a scotch, but not Laphroaig, thanks. What about a dram of the Springbank?
Here's to the spirits of Gina Lee Carlson Witte and Sheryl Ann Biegler Fischbach, the finest of women, since Htom would care for none other.
Just got back from Fort Collins. The doc found a wee mole that he wants the dermatologist to look at. Whatever possessed the fair northern tribes (Irish and Norsk) to relocate to this sunstruck desolation, I don't know. But maybe, genetically speaking, not a great idea.
Bad mole or none, I'll finish the bloody fence tomorrow— the half with new posts set, that is. Life is full of such half-won victories. The river has flooded the other half. (Thanks to the river gods for that small blessing.)
Thanks. They were both part of our "college tracked" clique. Approaching ten percent of our high school class have died over the last 45 years (that we know of; another ten percent or so have just vanished, we've lost track of them completely, and there are some that we know are just not going to attend and want nothing to do with the class as such.)
Those of you ignoring your 20 and 25 and 30 year high school reunions should think again. Or not, I know some of the reasons people don't attend and I wouldn't either if I had them. People can be so screwed up and do horrible things. Or things that others think of as hilarious, but for the two involved, there can be a lot of pain that never gets resolved.
I've got some moles that Doc has looked at and said "hmm", but so far they've been just moles. Dad and Mom both have skin cancer problems from over exposure to sun in the Dakotas and Montana when they were young. That's why I'm frequently wearing a hat and SPF30.

Basal cell carcinoma is the common sort of skin cancer, and in the early stages can be frozen off with liquid nitrogen (you get a blister— not so bad.) The sort you need to watch for are melanomas, which are most often very dark, with uneven edges, and often tiny ulcers at the surface. I had one between my shoulder blades and the Wolf Goddess spotted it. The GP carved it out and I had some followup surgery which cost a lot and wasn't much fun.
If you've spent lots of time in the sun and have fair skin and pigmented moles, find a dermatologist and get a checkup every six months. It has to be cut out early, or you die. No therapy except early identification and prompt knifework. Several Kiwi sailors and river runners I admire have died from melanomas. For sunscreen, SPF 50-100 would be best, with a hat that shades your face, ears, and the back of your neck.
Sorry to bugger the atmosphere, but all of us sailors need to be vigilant in this respect.
I'll have a Pabst Blue Ribbon, to remind me of my youth.

They run in my family. Sister had one, in the same spot as mine. My mother's brother died of melanoma, in that same place.
But I'm not going to stay out of the sun— what sort of life is that?
Quoted at length for the great advice. My hats pretty much all do that; big brims, most with aft-sloping neck coverage. (OR Sonora Sombrero or a wide-brimmed Tilley in the summer.) Higher than SPF-30 I haven't seen much of, but I will look.
And I'll have a Pabst Blue, too. To Youth!

PBR....Not only on tap, but we have those little 6oz. cans in a special cooler that keeps them just above freezing, so when you open them you get a beer smoothie. Best served with rocky road icecream, and pretzel sticks.
Had a couple of polite little thunderstorms last night. Flashing lightning, rumbling thunder, pattering rain. A nice way to spend a sleepless night.
1/3 pound ground chuck bacon double cheese burger with lettuce, grilled onion, tomato, and cucumber slices. Served with curly fries and a giant dill pickle.
Roast giant land snails, served with scampi butter, and garlic toast.
Artichoke/onion soup served with crusty rustic bread and sweet creamery butter.
Fresh leg of lamb sandwich on rustic bread with mint sauce, and au jus. Served with boiled herbed potatoes and braised carrots.
Grilled Yellowtail tuna, marinataed in lemon juice and olive oil with a bit of tarragon and oregano. Served with white rice cooked in chicken stock, and haricots vert.
Special on tap: Fischer

Had an accidental ale smoothie last night. Forgot to put a beer in the fridge, so I put a bottle of Rare Vos in the freezer for a quick chill. Then I forgot about that, too.
Finished up with what I was doing about 2-1/2 hours later. THEN I remembered the ale.
Pulled the cage and opened the cork.
Nothing.
Waited a bit.
Nothing but a sweaty bottle.
Then, suddenly it rose in an angry icy frothy mass from the neck of the bottle. Once I got that bit out, things were hunky-dory.

Well, fortunately it didn't get that cold. Just an ice plug around the neck. Still had the characteristic head of a Belgian ale.

Good black licorice, salty with lots of anise and licorice flavor goes well with a Belgian ale.

Never tried that combo. Usually like my licorice on it's own.
Still got that splitter hangin' around? Looks like Saturday afternoon could be good.

A 1/3 pound ground chuck bacon double cheese burger with "the works" for me please.
Yeah those little Pabst bottles are cute but I prefer a 40 oz. bottle myself.......in a paper bag eh?

Sa'dey is fine Nooey, as long as it int raining....
Hell of a thunderstorm last evening. Power out CrashBOOMFLASH! All at once means that strike was real close!
Then it got (relatively) cool. I had some dinner and went to bed to the sound of rain drumming steadily on the roof.
It's friday. The back porch is a little damp, but the grills are going, the meat is cooking, the coolers are stocked with sides of potato, pasta, Greek, Chef's and Ceasar's salads. The seafood is all fresh, even the Wahoo, which was flown up here alive in a tank.
I'm gonna try the Thai pork medallions with deep fried flour dusted fresh shrimp, and shallot chips. Maybe come back for some delightfully caramelized roast corn, and Boiled Appetizer size cold water lobster. I hesitate to call them "Maine" lobster because they actually come from closer to Ireland than Maine.... But regardless they weigh in at around a pound-pound and a quarter, and are firm, and sweet and oh so deliscious!
The chuck steaks have been marinating in red wine and crusted with sea salt and ground black pepper for hours, and cooked over a hardwood charcoal fire. Bon Appetite! Served with fresh string beans and a baked potato stuffed with bacon, cheese, chives and butter, and topped with fresh sour cream.....
Special on tap: Odell's Cutthroat Porter.

Got a meeting at 10ish on Saturday, so I'll probably be down around 1ish... Might bring a porta-minion along for a bit of help. We'll see what the weather holds. You know how often the weather folks are right, right?

I'm doing fine, Bobby!
Trying to avoid the oppressive heat around here.
Good morning, seanz!
Af'noon Bobby. It's "Just finished my 2nd coffee on Saturday morning, better get of the interwebs soon and do some more packing" time.
G'day Glen, remember to keep your fluids up.

We don't know how lucky we are....
It's in the ninety's here, we had about ten drops of rain this morning. To humid to play outside.
G'day, all! I'll have a Cockspur rum, over a couple ice cubes.
Greenhouse and garden keeping me busy, for the morning hours. Then I hung rails on the fence 'til I was standing in water. Flood time on the Big Laramie. My kayaker mate, Jodie, came out and we ran it yesterday at about 3000cfs / 85 cms, which is the biggest flood recorded. Some interesting hydraulics in the narrow part of the canyon, and water is going over the top of Deadman's Rock.
Here we are in the parking loop, which is now the boating loop I guess.
Up here in the headwaters, we don't have nasty, devastating floods. We have fun floods.
