Sounds like you are speaking from experience Doug.
The recent crowd of partygoers at your house perchance!!
Mornin Sophie, I really miss that clutter that little ones do. Now it's just me and drives the wife up the wall.![]()

OK.... and now it's time for me to perform a controlled (It's a relative thing) experiment with all 4 cannons, loaded with the same amount of powder, and tamped with the same amount of wadding.... And videoed from a set distance, so we can have a side by side comparison of performance..... Jim's cannon, which is undeniably larger in bore than the ones that I made, the genuine commercially made one that another friend has brought over, and the two pieces of drilled out hydraulic ram that I did....
I shall return!..... (This may take a few moments while I figure out the fuse timing....)

Morning allSo..what happened with the cannons? I want one, but the Captain said no, after that unfortunate(recalled) flare gun incident.

Thanks Bobby, I could use one more cup of coffee, then onto Gatorade..And no, I do try to keep away from dangerous things. The (Orange)Orion was recalled because after you let off a flare, the pin would stick out. The heat from the first flare would warp the gun. It's the second flare that almost took off my finger. DNA was everywhere! That took me months to heal. Yup- no Dr..if it wasn't for my wedding rings it hit, my finger would have been gone. Have a really cool round scar on the inside of the finger tho![]()

Yeah..... Too bad about that.....
OK..... Well...... Jim's not going to be happy, but here we are...
Each one was loaded with the same amount of powder (1/2tsp., because that's all the littlest one can take safely), and tamped with as close to the same amount of pressure as I could without special tools....Wadding is cocktail napkin, courtesy of Russ, and Julia Manheimer....(I think)
First to go off is Ledger's, then the store bought one, then my large bore, then finally, the little one....

Hey there CB!.....
It's really too nice to be in here..... 86, dry, nice breeze..... This is the kinda day I live for.... But I just spent an hour bleaching coolers, and I needed a cold beer to re-power.... And this was the only place open......
Never trust a man with a clean workshop.
Yeah..... The cat kicks the crap out of him in about.... 6,5,4,3,2,1.......
But do you see how much green fuzzy mossy/stuff has accumulated on the deck in the last year?...... And that's a SSW exposure with no shade tree.....

Your little cannon sounds as loud as your big one and the store bought one. That bright one sounds like a cap pistol in comparison.![]()

Bleaching coolers, do you ever stop lookin for stuff to do? Have a beer or five and relax. Hi Chris, hows it going ?
"para todo mal, mezcal, y para todo bien también" (for everything bad, mezcal, and for everything good, as well.)
Well..... I borrowed one cooler from a friend to transport the ribs, and then it got some other stuff put in it after the ribs got cooked and et, and then it got some beers put into it, and then it somehow ended up out back of the house, where I didn't see it for a week.... So it kinda needed cleaning before I returned it.... And while I had the hose and bleach out, I figured it wouldn't hurt to swab down the others as well..... And well..... One thing led to another, and then it was time for a beer, so.....

Afternoon, Bobster, ChrisB, Leftito, Seanz, Sophie.
Lefty— you and John B. from Auckland ought to meet up for an international shoot-out. He's keen on wee cannons, fired from the decks of yachts.
A glass of red wine— St. Hallett Gamekeeper's Red, although in these parts there are no gamekeepers, but only game wardens, in red shirts with big pistols.
Another cloudy day. Trained some unruly tomato plants onto twine trellises in the greenhouse, and stripped and repotted strawberries, hoping to rejuvenate some moribund plants. Then I weeded a couple beds outside. The potatoes look good, with the frost-frizzled leaves hidden in new, green foliage. There was a bundle of sprouts, which I reckon came from the seeds of a melon or squash in the compost, so I untangled the roots and planted 4-5 of them just see what they are.
We'll have some nice peas and lettuce and rocquette soon. Just picked some darling pink & white radishes.
Thawed out some deer, hoping to make kebabs, but the pieces were too small so I'm making a stew with purple pearl onions, fairy-ring mushrooms, red wine (by coincidence, St. Hallett Gamekeepers Red) with secret herbs and spices. I'll pop in some red peppers and oil-cured olives farther along.
Cloudy Sunday puts me in the mood for Norma Winstone—
Back in a bit.
Well I am kinda hungry, Here is my plate. No that is not a platter. I will have a beer while Chip finishes up.![]()

"Racing to Bermuda a century on the ocean" just started on our local PBS station. Time to assume the horizontal position. Maybe I can stay awake.

Chip I'm glad to see that you can get back to discussing the important things, wine and your hobbies, not fires and evacuating houses.
I'm off to bed, my house is back in order and my mind has recovered thanks to a few drops of medicine.
Have fun,
Sophie![]()
It could be watching Sophie and Donn dagger stab each other semantically, that makes you tired, Bobby....![]()

Well.... It really was a very nice day today.... Sunny, warm, cool breeze, few bugs.... Had a nice dinner of grilled lamb chops, the very first purple string beans of the season, and corn on the cob..... The corn was a little tired, but still OK.....

Sounds like you're taking laudanum, but you might be using the word drops for drams (cf: I'd not mind the wee drop of whisky) so I'll not be worrying about you this night, lass. You can take care of yourself, which is admirable.
Despite the rain and cool days, we're both still worn out from the stress of having to bail out. I left my mother's second-best painting hanging on the wall (the shame is terrible). I'm thinking about renting a storage unit in town and keeping the things we'd like to preserve, and don't need on a daily basis, there for the rest of the summer.
Here's a summer song:
Before they made it big, Sly and the Family Stone used to play in Vegas at a low-rent club on the Strip called The Colonial House. One of my favorite spots for dancing.
Actually found a pic of it on the web. Sly Stone in the Plantation Room. That must have made him happy. The big hotels would book black acts that attracted white audiences (e.g. Sammy Davis, Jr.) but those that drew black audiences did gigs at the Colonial House on the Strip or the Moulin Rouge on the West Side. Torn down in the 80s, to make room for a Steve Winn colossus.

Well it was nice to wake up on my own this morning. This 3 in a bed for the last couple of nights has been fun but it's not the sort of activity that I'm used to early on a Sunday morning.
"Thomas the Tank Engine" is not normally the topic of choice! Though apparently I do make a good mountain to drive over
The working world and rain, how dismal!
Morning Sophie, I been sitting over here in the corner waiting for someone to stop by.![]()

Hey Bobby, how are you doing? More to the point, what are you doing up at this hour?
Coffee and croissants, adult breakfast!
This is my regular hours, sleep seems to be something I don't do much of anymore. I am doing pretty good, how about you?
"para todo mal, mezcal, y para todo bien también" (for everything bad, mezcal, and for everything good, as well.)
distracting myself rather than getting on with the work in front of me!
I'll have to be good and do some soon.
I'm enjoying having my space back again!
I need some sun and warmth, any to spare?
"para todo mal, mezcal, y para todo bien también" (for everything bad, mezcal, and for everything good, as well.)
June had double the normal rain, April was the wettest for 100years and now more rain. The Olympics will probably get washed out!
Time for me to do some work. I'll stop in later.
Have fun,
Sophie![]()
