Pouring rain here too... And chilly. At least it's not snowing, and the weather guy says it will be warm thursday or friday. I'll believe it when I feel it. Right now I'm about twisted into knots from this cool wet stuff....
I see I missed a fun evening here by crashing and burning early.....
But I couldn't suck air in through my nose, and my tooth was getting dried out from mouth breathing.
Once again, this morning my honker is fine and clear (After the corks got pulled), and we'll see if we notice anything obvious when/if it starts clogging up again. Aldo's at my feet, so I don't think it's him.....

I guess that's fair..... We send our borderline psychotics, and scam artists down to Florida along with the elderly New York jews, and you guys send us oranges, drugs, and rain...... Wait.... We get rain from all directions, and oranges from California..... OK we'll keep the drugs though....![]()

I'm just back from a beerfest. You gotta get some of this stuff...
"Zingari" by Wandering Star (Pittsfield, of all places) spicy lemongrass witbier
"Old Guardian" by Stone. effing delicious barleywine.
"Penny Weiz" by Old Burnside (east hartford? ew!) summery and glorious.
But not for today.
For today, pour some carrot soup into the stew, hold the noodles. Side of crack-a-tooth crispy onion rings. Adnam's Broadside.
Yes, I'm staaaahving.
Knowledge: Tomatoes are fruit.
Wisdom: Tomatoes do not belong in fruit salad.
Lefty - I hate to be be telling tales out of school... but you should know... while you were otherwise occupied... there was a whole bunch of drunking going on. Got so noisy around here, it woke me up from my usual nap in the corner by the fire, and I had to move even further back away from the revelry.
And skippper? Well... I guess I shouldn't write it down permanent-like. Who knows what the lawyers will do with such evidence, eh?

GOOD GOD! No wonder we have such a large electric bill!
I think it's prolly a good thing I don't hang out here all night any more.....
And no, Chip..... He knows horses better than most, having grown up with them on his parents' farm in N.Va...... Not big wide open range land, but he's no city kid..... And He can handle real work.... I think he was more thinking he'd need the guns and knives to keep bad people away while he was truck camping on his way across the country. I think he has plans to drive out on roads smaller than interstates (Think "Blue Highways"), and is worried about getting ripped off, or worse...... But.... You can't tell a kid nothin'..... And he's not a nephew. He's Carter's best friend's son..... So..... Kinda almost close enough to nephew.....

The combination of guns, knives, and testosterone is pretty volatile. Add booze and you've got serious trouble. But he sounds a bit more reasonable in your latest bio. From what you say, I reckon he'll spend quite a lot of time on a farmbike (what Kiwis call an ATV) with a fence jack on the bars and a roll of bobwire on the back, stretching and splicing.
For several years, I worked on a cow/calf outfit north of Pinedale, WY with about 5000 deeded acres in 16 pastures. I'd hire on in March to feed from a bobsled with a team, so the year-round folks could have some days off. Then we'd start calving, which is hard work, some rather unpleasant (like having a cow crap all over your face while you're trying figure out how her calf is oriented). Fixing fence all day and then taking the midnight-to-dawn shift calving wears you out fast.
I did the fencing by myself, mostly. First year the fences were a mess. But it got easier every spring, since I did work that lasted. The best part was moving cows between pastures, sorting them out (i.e. cutting), and doing a couple spring brandings. We also herded and branded bulls, which had moments of sheer terror.
In June I'd leave for my range foreman/rider job with the Forest Service, avoiding irrigation and haying. While my cowboy pals were lummoxing around in rubber boots with shovels, I was riding forty miles a day in the mountains.
Pigskin gloves are good for working wire fence— they seem to resist the barbs better. And long-sleeved shirts are good— otherwise your forearms get scratched and poked. He should stop at a rummage store on the way and buy 10 of them, cause they'll get ripped pretty quickly.
Most ranches have worn-out boots laying around, and I used to make fencing bags. This is a fancy fashion type, but you get the idea.
You cut off the top, turn it inside out, and stitch up the opening with harness thread. Slip the tab over your belt. Good for packing staples or fence spikes (for corners and braces). I used to make lots and give 'em away to mates.
Anyhow, I hope he has a good summer.

I thought Bobby-san (((((((((GONNNNGGGG))))))))!!!!!!!!'s birthday was in December......
And yep, Chip..... Perzackly! This kid doesn't drink alcohol.... At least not yet. I'd guess watching his parents, and parents' friends get silly drunk every weekend of 22 summers might have had an effect....![]()

Just poked around on the net and found a photo of my boss, Melody, who ran the ranch.
She taught me a lot about horses and cattle— she was almost always patient and gentle with animals. She looked like a Bolshoi ballet mistress— there's a lot of golden hair tucked up in that hat. Broke more than a few hearts. But she was married and pretty straitlaced— in those days, anyhow.
The owner was in and out. He was mates with Bob Weir and used to go on tour with the Dead. Bobby would stash his teen sweeties at the ranch on occasion. Interesting place to work.
Yep yesterday, made 62 big ones I am now ofishally and old fart, December was not me birthday That was a mis understanding. by the time I saw what happened, I figgered what the heck![]()

Hola, señorita— mezcales grandes, otra vez, por mis compañeros. Y cervesas mas frios, por favor. Y copas dobles por Glen, since he needs to catch up.
