Despite the gray, cold, windy weather...... (Wishing it was mid-march again.... When it was warm)
We're gonna fire up the grills.
Pork spare ribs with a sweet and spicy dry rub, then doused liberally with our own sweet BBQ sauce, then slow cooked over hardwood charcoal, until moist and juicy inside, with a nice chewy dark crust on the outside. Served with hot potato salad, and steamed baby green beans.
Hot beef and rice soup, with a mini loaf of crusty sourdough bread and a selection of slicing cheeses.
Hot dogs galore! Including the infamous "Georgia hots" of bar room lore. Spicy and with that signature skin popping snap! these babies are just the thing on a dreary afternoon like this.... Served with chips and a pickle.
Special on tap: Long trail double bag.

Just because you eat more ribs in one day than the rest of us could eat in a lifetime, doesn't make you a better cook, Slim... As a matter of fact, it seems to me that you never had any trouble choking down the food at the EBSs that I've seen you at.....

I think I'm up for the ribs. Not so sure about the tube-steak surprise...

Double Bag. There's a beer with memories. I was teaching at WoodenBoat and was getting some supplies from the stock room for my students while we were glassing at the end of the day. I'd forgotten something and headed back into the stock room in a hurry. Wyatt Lawrence and Greg Rossel were in the East shop which is just up the hall from the door of the stock room. On my third time in to put things away, Greg grabs my hand, presses a Double Bag into it looks me straight in the face and says, "Stop!".

Beer-thirty had arrived in the shop before dinner time.

    Little snark-chasm this morning, eh?

I think Greg drinks more coffee than anyone else alive until about 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Then, when the work is done, he proceeds to switch from his morning "restorative beverage" to his evening one.

Chainsaws, bow construction artists, lecherous Texan gate builders and a squirrel counter revolution. A big EBS and boat bright work in the land of the bikini babes.
It's all happening at the pub!

The only thing not happening here is Lefty cooking vegetarian food.
I know that you carrion eaters are in the majority here but please Lefty, how about a few things for us "other" people?

    How are you guys doing?
Cold, wet and not nice for a while yet here. But I'm sure that Bobby is basking in the sunshine watching the world pass by.

Ahhh... Perhaps the humungous fungus for Sophie:

Take a large Portobella Mushroom and remove the center stem (reserve) and marinade in a balsamic vinaigrette.

Chop the mushroom stem, some onion, red pepper and green pepper and sautee, adding some diced zucchini (courgette) and garlic at the end. Add some chopped seeded tomato, basil and a bit of the vinaigrette at the end.

Take the marinated mushroom out and put it on the grill. Stuff with the veggies and top with some fresh mozzarella cheese. Cook on a medium indirect heat until the cheese is melted and the mushroom and veggies heated through. Serve on a bed of cous-cous and red lentils with a fresh green salad on the side.

Well it seems That I made it through another round of torture, Before and after blood work. twice in the torture chamber and The easy stuff in between. It is now beer o'clock. I see That Sophie was in for a while. We could get Mr.Left to make a fresh salad for her and a baked tater.

Hey Salty Guy, Hows your day going? Mine is better now. I get slightly claustrophobic when they put me in that chamber and remove the oxygen. The bugs and beer and corn is really good.

Not a things gone wrong yet Bobby! But. It's early out here yet. lol

Naw, the sun's shine'n the birds are chirping, the dogs are barking a nice morning. Speaking of birds, there's an old church next door with a shake roof. You may be suprised to hear I haven't been to the church, but I need to tell someone there that the freak'n starlings are getting in under the shakes left right and centre hauling beakfulls of nesting material. In a few weeks no one's gonna hear the preacher fer dozens of baby starlings squawking their heads off!

Well you can look at that Starling thing two ways. I will just say, The Lord works in mysterious ways. I guess the right thing would be to tell them. I am glad it is a good day for you.

Sophie won't eat a baked potato! She's a vegemitarian...... Potatoes are half meat.....
But the vegetarian chili, and the vegetarian lasagna, and the vegetarian beef stew, she could eat!...
And BTW..... Just because it's not on the daily specials board doesn't mean that we don't have it, or that you can't order it..... It just means that's not on special, and you'll be paying full price..... That's all.....
I make a mean vegetarian cocktail too by the way...... It's sinfully good.....

No....... That's a line from "The Silence of the Clams".....
And to pronounce the meal properly, it's "Meatanpotatoes", so clearly it's half meat...

What do you expect a werewolf to eat? Tofu?

Seriously, I cook veg meals 3-4 nights a week. Do you use eggs or dairy? Fish? I can do a killer tomato/anchovy tart. Or peppery rice & beans. Or savage variations on curry. There are some great meatless dishes. We have friends on gluten-free diets, nut-free diets, meat-and-dairy-free diets. Never sent a guest away hungry.

    And then there's deer tenderloin

I'm thinking a nice dry Zinfandel, like the Deloach Sonoma 1996 estate..... Or perhaps the Ravenswood 1998 Mendocino Cabernet Sauvignon....
I'd go with a Pinot Noir, but it might not have enough oompff......

Sounds delicious. I'd probably go with a well-aged Piedmont red (Barbera, Barbaresco) or a rustic southern Rhone red (Gigondas or Vacqueyras). Or an Aussie blend such as St. Hallett Gamekeeper Red. There's a California red — Baileyana GFC Cuvee Syrah— that might work well if your guests are red wine fanciers. It's very concentrated and true to type (the classic Rhone formula).

All of them have an earthy, tarry, leathery character that— in moderation— would complement the grilled mushrooms.

Maybe a beer shower stall would be a good idea..... Outdoors, of course, on the back deck, by the grills, and half way to the pool......
You could just walk in, pull the chain and tip yer head back, mouth open....... Might be a bit nipply though........
