Losing us for a week or two is to be expected.

You'll never lose us for good though. Our life is the same as the wbf - even though we now live on a tupperware stinkpot. We don't crank her very often so we don't spread the stink

She will demand the dr preface - she earned it (or will) and I will always introduce her as such (once she earns it, lol).

I'll just be hippy dude Geno. It's what I am.

There is a sinister, dark side to my family's history that is just beginning to reveal it's self....
    More later.
This morning is reliably gloomy and damp. Rain, coldish, but not cold. They're talking about snow tonight. Still warmer than most of June.
Turkey melt on lightly toasted rye, with Gruyere, lettuce and tomato. served with hot, soft pretzels and a giant, humongous dill pickle.
Vegetable beef soup, with fresh bread and cheddar cheese,
Szechuan spicy pork stir fry with mixed "Asian" vegetables, and cellophane noodles. Be warned, this is HOT. (Like Chuck would like hot)
Mexican omlette. with diced jalapeno, Monterey Jack cheese, onion, green bell peppers, tomato, and refried beans.
Special on tap: Omegang Rare Vos.

I think the stir-fry is in order with some of Steven's potstickers. Any Sriracha to go with it?

Dunno if the Rare Vos will go well with it, but I'll give that a go if it's on draft.

That brings up the question of what does gin sound like now that all these cell phones have "Apps" for their tone.....?.... It's not like you can pour a jigger of gin over ice and have it sound like Brad Paisley or Janet Jackson......

The Vos is far superior to SS.... I did see that Sam Adams has a new brew out that might need testing.... I can't recall the flavor just now though.....

Oh it is, but either one is fine by me. Had some Sam Adams Winter Lager this past week. Gift from a friend - it was OK, but I prefer smaller brewers, mostly. I am liking the Lefty's brews. Quite nice - particularly the porter. Cooking up a pot of corn chowder this evening. Bummer is that I will not get a bowl. SWMBO is taking it for a craft fair at the school where she teaches on Saturday. If yer good, I might post the recipe. It's simple, but nice.

    Corn and Potato Chowder

1 Medium Onion, 1/4” Diced (Yellow or Sweet)
4 TBSP salted butter (1/2 stick – or you can use healthier alternatives, like Smart Balance)
    ~4 TBSP Flour
~1 Quart Milk (I use 1% or Whole Milk depending on how “healthy” I’m trying to be – avoid skim for this, however)
4 Medium Potatoes, 3/8” Diced (Skin on or off, your preference – I like the skins for added nutrition.)
1 11oz can of corn, drained
    1 14.75oz can of cream-style corn
    2 TBSP crumbled bacon bits
2 TSP Dried Parsley (Dried works much better than fresh, here.)
    Salt & Pepper to taste

Serves about 4 (depending on how hungry you are!)

Put diced potatoes in a large pan and cover with water. Add 1 TSP of salt to the water and bring to the boil on high. When the boil is reached, turn down to medium and cook until a knife goes into a large piece of potato, but that they are otherwise firm. The potato will continue to cook in the chowder.

Melt butter on medium heat in a heavy pan. Add diced onion and sautee until the onion is translucent. Add flour and crumbled bacon and stir to combine. The mixture should be stiff, but not dry or pasty. Brown the roux lightly (light tan in color), stirring frequently to avoid burning or sticking for about 2 minutes. Add 1/2 the milk and stir well to get it to absorb the roux while scraping the bottom to get any of the roux that may have stuck there. Add the corn (both cans) and the remaining milk. If the potatoes are done, add them as well as the parsley. Simmer at no higher than medium heat, stirring frequently until the chowder thickens to avoid burning to the bottom of the pot. It takes a while for the roux to thicken the chowder, so don’t be alarmed if it takes a while. (20 minutes or more...) This is a dish best prepared ahead of time and left to sit overnight before serving. Nice when accompanied with some warm crunchy bread.

Shooting for thickness. Plenty of flavor with the onion, bacon and what not. I tend to use the vacuum packed corn, so there's not much moisture there - probably wouldn't hurt to add it, but you might need to cook off the extra moisture a bit longer.

Well, the canned is actually pretty good, here. Fresh is better if you can find it when you want to make it, but I always like this when the weather is cold and corn is out of season.
