Seems like most glasses frames these days are all squinty flat rectangle or squished oval things.
    Styles change....
It's a gloomy Wednesday morning. Spitting rain, and heavy low clouds. It's fairly warm though.
Got some of that good chicken soup, with fresh bread and butter.
There's shepherd's pie, made with ground lamb and ground beef, peas, carrots, and mashed potatoes. Served with soda bread and sweet butter.
Grilled sausage with mashed potato, and baked beans.
Shrimp salad sandwich, on lightly toasted whole wheat, with lettuce and tomato. Served with fries and a pickle.
and rotisserie rabbit, stuffed with wild rice and mixed diced vegetables, Served with hot buttered rolls, and a small side salad.
Special on tap: Pabst blue ribbon

The White Stripes cover Dylan - One More Cup of Coffee Before I Go:

Yesterday, I had my first cup of coffee since the throat surgery. Tested mighty good!

Cancerous lump on my uvula removed. I'm about healed up from the surgery now, so can drink coffee and beer. My pipe is permanently retired, however. During the upcoming radiation treatments, I'm instructed to skip any sort of alcohol and probably won't be much interested in hot coffee. The treatments apparently leave you feeling like you have a sunburn on the roof of your mouth. Hard to eat, swallow, and talk. Lukewarm, soft food once that starts.

David G., Prayers and smoke sent your way from us in Alaska. Get well soon.

I miss Chuckie (Paladin). Have to go find one of his old recipes, make it for dinner and burn a candle for him.

In the meanwhile, it's 14 F (degrees) winds blowing at 25-30mph. Husband just left for the harbor. Going to build a fire on Orca and making checking that the ocean water in the harbor hasn't started to freeze around Orca.

    I got this info from NOAA;

Ocean water freezes just like freshwater, but at lower temperatures. Fresh water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit), but seawater freezes at about -1.9 degrees Celsius (28.4 degrees Fahrenheit) because of the salt in it. When seawater freezes, however, the ice contains very little salt because only the water part freezes. It can be melted down to use as drinking water.

LOL! Those crazy scientists! Yes, only the water part of sea water freezes, but the salt that's stuck between the frozen bits of water is still salty.

The real Heineken is good stuff. Hard to believe they can get away with selling the swill they do here.... It's just plain old foul....Then again, Americans drink Budweasle, Miller, and Coors by the bucket full.....

The North Coast Brewing Co. Out of Ft. Bragg, Ca. has a very good, very smooth Russian Imperial Stout.
You might actually even be able to enjoy it during radiation.... Or at least tolerate it.

Old Hires is what I crave when I crave root beer.... New Hires (If they even still bother) is just sugar water with fizz. A&W isn't the same either. Too much sugar, too little flavor. IBC is OK.... And Stewart's is OK.... But still not the same as old Hires.

Bobster— Glad the Doc thinks there's hope. If he starts talking sex change, I'd get a second opinion.

Here's a song that Harry taught me. He played a nice ragtime guitar, with Lawrence fiddling and doing the second vocal, while I blew the harp. Imagine Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, and Mississippi John Hurt.

IBC Root beer for Bobby.... That changes the name to "Ima Beer Cat"......
And I stand corrected on the Red Oak RR ties. Seems they use them in some places after they soak 'em in creosote and other toxic goo for a long time. I know the old telegraph wires that ran along the tracks up here had to be made out of Black Locust. When they were taking them out, people would grab em up as fast as they could for firewood, or fence posts.

I'm a righty and Mum is playing one of my old guitars.......now I think about it, my first guitar.

Cotten plays like Hendrix? I'd say she plays like Dick Dale, I think Hendrix restrung for a lefty.

'Course, I ain't the lefty expert around here.

Evening seanz & Glen. I'm doing a discography on "Old Rocking Chair."

    Here's the original recording:

Here's the man who wrote it for Mildred Bailey:

Clapton played it too. But Harry's arrangement was the best I've heard. Very nice John Hurt-style guitar with wonderful chord changes and tone color.

You guys have a drink. I'll sit and mess with my guitar.

We had some tornadoes south of here today. I am terrified of them now. They killed three close personal friends, one classmate that we spent every minute with for two years, destroyed 30% of our town and missed us by mere yards in April.

Please wish bamagirl (my wife) luck. She was selected for an interview with the McNair Scholars program this week. A bigger deal we will probably not see. They pay all tuition and fees for the master's and the PhD degree as well as funding the student for a minimum of 15k stipend per year for five years. That stipend varies by school and how bad they want you - I have seen 50k per year for a stipend plus .5 pay of a full-time instructor if you wish to TA (about ten hours per week) for an average of 30k per year.

The dream we are working towards is to be employed by the same university (in a warm locale) - "I have to go see Dr. Randle", "which one?". lol

To be honest, if my 2500 clam car wasn't being pissy atm, I would not be looking forward to not living simply.

I'll have un mezcal por favor. I need to eat a worm for luck.
