I'm itching to get a day of sailing. On sunny days the wind's been vicious, and I'm not keen on the prospect of breaking a mast and taking a swim in water that's way too cold for swimming.

    Hail Huey, full of grace!

Tried the new sleeping pill last night....The one that the insurance co. was withholding authorization for for no apparent reason other than they could.... I watched the clock go from 10PM to 5:30AM before I took the initiative and swallowed an Ambien, slept. until 10AM..... I'm happy....Not.
But it's a sunny day with less wind, so off to yard work I go.
I'm just so freakin' happy I could lay an egg.

Hot day in Paradise. Calls for a gin and tonic in a really big glass with two handfuls of ice, a whole lime, and enough gin to cover the ice.

    Maria of the Cats!

I've been raving about the bloody fence job, so here 'tis:

Note the scallops cut with a double-bit, so the rail will lie flat on the post— essential element to keep a fence up in snow and moose country. I've got posts set halfway across the river frontage and rails on half the new posts. I can get the rest on in two days, and then will have to stop while the river floods.

Popped some antelope stew meat, onions, carrots, garlic, red wine, and sprigs of sage and thyme in the old solar cooker this morning, it's still cooking away:

Built the cooker for my mum (RIP)— twenty years ago. Still works the same as it did the first day. The sun's pretty close to the ridge. Time to dish up.

Built more fence. (Ouch!) Floodtime. Waded up the path to lift the neighbour's gate rails so they won't float off: pretty stiff current running down the trail. Ruby had to swim for it a few times.

Worked on the new mast and spars. Blended some stains from my collection and found a colour that matches the brightwork. Let it dry a while, then I'll hit it with spar varnish.

Ran the river in late afternoon. Higher than last year's peak, very fast and muddy, with the narrowest part throwing up a reversing wave. My kayaker mate punched through— sploosh— and I, in the little red sport cat, went flying off the top.

I'll have a shot of Cockspur and a tall glass of limeade with lots of ice.

Then it's off to bed. Night, all.

Sounds like a day well spent.

    Gin for me.

3 weeks out from the (alleged) start of demolitions and we still haven't got temporary accomodation sorted out.
Got nearly all of the books packed though.....nearly 70 cartons....that's not that many, right?

    70 seems about right....
And that bottle of Jack Iron is the wimpy tourist stuff. Only 140 proof. The real Jack Iron only comes in a wooden cask and is only sold on the island of Carriacou in rum shops. The real stuff is "around" 190 proof.
These new sleeping pills work just great, for about 3-4 hours. Been up tossing and turning and scrinching my eyes in pain since 2:30AM. My feet and hands feel like someone's been slamming them with hammers. I'm so sick of this crap I could cry.
But enough about me, let's talk about something fun..... Like my plans for the day. Survive. Pay dad's bills. Try to figure out where my property tax money is hiding. Meet the people from Service Master down at dad's so they can clean up the septic leak that the renters managed to not know anything about despite the buckets that they placed almost under the leak. Have the truck towed to the fix-it shop so they can replace the leaking oil pan that I paid someone to fix last autumn.
Oh yes....It's so easy to be up-beat and positive! No wonder I'm so popular!
Lamb shish ka babb. Spell it how you want. Marinated over night in olive oil, mint, garlic, rosemary, thyme, and lemon juice. skewerd on bamboo, with cherry tomatoes, par boiled potatoes, green peppers, mushrooms, and yellow crookneck squash. Cooked over hardwood charcoal.
Fillet of sole with lemon, olive oil, and black pepper. Flash grilled and served with jasmine rice and steamed asparagus.
Chicken ala King with diced carrots, potato, onion, and baby peas. Served on fresh peasent bread toast.
Hot and sour soup, with tree ear mushrooms, lemon grass, ginger, and shrimp.
    Special on tap: Old Froth-N-Slosh.

Yep that would be Larry, This is a habit him and I have fallen into. He is just a faster at it than me. Did ya notice the one on the picnic table? It is made of hickory. The arrows are also hand made.

    Hi Bobby,
What's with the feathers in Larry's bow string. Decoration or do they affect the dynamics in some way?

I'm buying a double round and ask you to raise your glasses and breathe a prayer for Gina Lee Carlson Witte and Sheryl Ann Biegler Fischbach, two of my high school classmates; both fun young ladies with infectious laughs and mirth-producing grins, taken after long bouts with cancer. Miss you both, ladies.

    A double Laphroig, please.
