Well....The weather sure did "break"... It's about 35 degrees cooler this morning than it was yesterday at this time.
But the grill's still out on the porch, and it's not actually cold outside so....
Fresh tuna steaks marinated in white wine and tarragon, Flash cooked over very hot coals. Still rare in the middle but with a nice crisp crust. Served with steamed asparagus with butter and lemon, and white rice cooked in chicken stock.
Rotisserie brace of quail. Stuffed with wild rice, slivered almonds, raisins, and Morels. A basket of crusty fresh out of the oven bread, and mesclun salad on the side.
Beef stew with potatoes, carrots, onion, and parsnips, served over broad egg noodles, with thick slabs of sourdough bread and a bowl of softened butter.
Special on tap: Carlton Mid Strength.... Never had it, but they put on a good commercial!

They are, but they do not look like that on the plate.Did you not see any on those romantic moonlit strolls along the Grange shore?

Was a bit cold and rainy in the end of June to be doing any strolling unless it was from one warm pub to the next..... Is That crazy artist Tom Deardon still around?

A beef bbq fer me and a cherry limeade with lotsa ice......
Watched a short thingy with a kitchen bimbo at the barber shop this morning....she was making crab cakes and adding all kinds of onions, green peppers, red peppers and yellow peppers and other things to "stretch" the crab meat.....there was no crab taste left when she got through...but I think if you backed off on the quantities of all the stuff she added, add one more egg and a quarter cup of unseasoned bread crumbs and a couple tablespoons of soft butter, the recipe might work with chopped shrimp instead of crab......They made some really nice shrimp cakes there.

Cold and rainy? June is the month for warm rain, ya big softy.

Gareth asked about Tom Deardon. I could find no trace of him, although there is some arts activity at Grange, when it is not raining in the summer they exibit and hold workshops on the prom by the Station.

Tom is /was a notorious bar fly., but also a somewhat famous artist. He is (at least as of 2000...) the only Brit to win the Pix D'or at the Paris exhibition. He took a shine to Carter and found us nearly every day that we were there (Mostly looking for a free pint I suspect). He gave Carter a signed program from a show he had in London... It wouldn't surprise me if he'd died in his sleep.
Curried lamb with broccoli, and boiled new potatoes.
Lobster bisque served in a hollowed out round loaf.
Fried egg and baked ham on toasted rye with grilled onions, and melted cheddar cheese. Served with fries and a Dill pickle.
    Special on tap: Adnam's Broadside.

Yeah - and maybe a few fries on the side... Fries dip good in the Barron's too, I bet.

I've had two vacation days in the last 8 months. I'm about due for an "insanity day" to go and do something fun for a change. Oh wait - that's coming up at the end of June, I think. Something about a boat show or what-not.

It's a gray gloomy Friday morning. Foggy, drizzly, thunderstorms expected, and there's a rabbit in the garden...... This is when I really miss Webster and Mudd...

Shepherds pie made with grond lamb, peas, corn, diced carrots, onions, and mashed potatoes, served with savory gravy.

    Another dreary morning.
I'm thinking a plate of cheese scrambled eggs with a side of thick cut maple cured bacon, a slice of rye toast with strawberry jam, a extra spicy bloody Mary with horseradish, tabasco, celery seed, worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, black pepper, vodka and "Bloody bold" mix. A celery stalk stirrer of course!

No problem Glen.... But it'll have to be a NY strip..... The rib eyes were a bit....... Past prime. Curiously I made exactly this for my father for his dinner tonight. He was a bit cranky that I expected him to eat a baked potato....... Alzhiemers is a devestating disease..... He used to love baked potatoes.....
DJ..... Vodka-tonic with just a squirt of lime, and a bowl of tiny popcorn shrimp with a variety of dipping sauces?
It's Derby day..... A bitter/sweet day for me. I used to love to watch the Kentucky Derby...... But 4 years ago my mother died 1 minute after the race was run. She'd been fighting colon cancer for several weeks... Well... not fighting for several weeks. It'd finally got her after several years. She finally handed in her ticket and decided to go gracefully. And she did. With great dignity and courage, she finally decided to call it quits. She kept the bastard at bay for 14 years, wrote a book, did a short authors tour, took care of my father, me,my sister, and countless friends. Few of us knew of the pain and discomfort she endured.
One of the books that I read to her in her last weeks, as she lay in bed starving to death, unable to eat, and craving the most absurd foods you can imagine..... A twinkie (Which I doubt she ever ate in her life) an oyster and banana sandwich, a beer (Which she only ever drank on st. Patrick's day)..... She asked me to eat a roast beef sandwich with horseradish so she could smell it..... Sorry....
One of the books I read to her was Roger Stouff's book of short stories "NATIVE WATERS". She'd appear to nod off and I'd stop reading aloud so as not to disturb her. A few minutes later she'd say "It doesn't end like that, does it?".
One of the last things she said to me was: "Tell your friend Roger to write a novel."
I miss my mother like I never thought I could miss anyone.....
I love you mom..... And your horse lost again this year too.....

    So that's:
    Processed milk products?
Bologna sausage (generally made from low value scraps (trimmings from steaks, pig lips, roasts or other meat cuts)).
    Mustard with permitted food colouring?
Over refined carbohydrate with chemical raising agents?
    Gnat's p##s?

Cold..... Cold....<Rummaging through the cooler...> There's a Rheingold down here on the bottom with a little ice formation on it.....
Dingo is scheduled to arrive here at the PUB around 8:30 or so depending on traffic.
