Hello Brian What a considence that your mother was here. What year ?


I thought it might be interesting to Forumites about the near disaster we almost had way back in August last year.


Without any warning a chandelior fell from the ceiling in the dining room, fortunately no body was dining at the time but it could have been prevented by assesing the chains capacity to carry the load in the first place. Totality in adquate even to this untrained eye as these photos show. Fortunately corrective measures to all other hanging light fixtures were installed to fix the situation by attachig a stainless steel wire to carry the load.. in close examination of the fix it image, one can see open chain links.

Yikes! That could've really hurt someone. When I replaced a 20 lb. or so brass chandelier in our house, I discovered it was only held up by the wire nuts - no mechanical support at all!

Hi Jack,

She lived there from March 2015 to July 2020.

(I am afraid to report that she had some of the same problems with the HVAC you are having.)

Living in a assisted living facility "The Village at Mariners Point" is a unique experience, sad events happen every day. Ambulances arrive almost daily to take some one away, maybe for good. Residents ponder Who ? .The Hippa law prevents disclosure, but the grape vine gives answers as well as the local Obit page. Personally, people I have come to respect and love are gone. In the outside world this also happens but here at bench mark an almost daily occurrence.

In view of the above I decided to post at least one image of the extensive art work here at the village. To kind of balance the post on a upbeat . Can any one identify the location ?

His last boating adventure was the rescue and restoration of an old fiberglas MIT Tech Dinghy. There's a thread here that documents the work. I don't know if he ever named the boat, and sometime after he had it up on Craigslist. Ye auld salt indeed, he will be missed.

Trying to think of how long ago Jack and I met at Lefty's riveting party. (catspaw dinghy? Herreshoff columbia?)

Gotta be close to 20 years ago now. In a handful of meet-ups over the years he was always the genuine clever gentleman we knew via his forum posts.

We met and talked at the fist EBS organized by Ed Harrow at Mystic Seaport. It was a cold February day, but all the conversation was warm and friendly.
