hi and thanks for all the info on scaling weight to a model
i float tested my two ozark jonboat models last night . very fun .
one to the original design and one with an increased beam to 4' at the shear and 3' at the chine
the scale was 1' = 1"
the larger model weighed 4 oz so thats an empty weight of 432 lbs scale
the full size boat in 1/2" yellow pine will weight 180 lbs
in 3/4 yellow pine it will weigh 269.1 lbs
the empty hull drafted 3" to scale
and loaded with pennies ( 10 scale pounds each ) i simulated two 150 lb people and 70 lbs for batteries and trolling motor
at 802 lbs scale it drafted 6 "
i guess this is not engineer accuracy but it was fun .
the submerged part of the hull was 10 feet long 4 feet wide . how do you calculate displacement and what does displacement tell you about a boat ?
what type of accuracy is achievable with my method , +/-10% , 25% ???
can accuracy be improved , maybe a 3' model instead of a 16" model
or can my findings not be applied to the full size boat and only used for conceptual knowledge ?
