Thread: Brass or bronze hand-rails

  1. #1

    Question

I'm fixing up a 1919 week-end cruiser, 25 feet. Looking for brass or bronze hand-rails for the cabin top and for the top of the pilot house. Any ideas for sources -- new or used? On some restored classics I've seen brass rails, maybe an inch-and-a-quarter diameter, mounted in brass stand-offs, kinda like the ones you'd see holding the foot-rail at a bar....Any sources/ suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Andrew: Thanks for the suggestion re Classic Marine. I checked their on-line catalogue, but don't find anything like the brass grab/hand rails I'm looking for....Any other thoughts? Thanks.

How about those bar foot rails?
No individual rain-drop thinks it\'s responsible for the flood.

John: Not sure of your location, but one source in the Pacific NW might well be Pete Langley at Port Townsend Foundry. I'm not certain if he maintains a website, but his phone number is (360)385-6425. Our experience is that he has a huge collection of existing patterns and has good access to "bronze" pipe through Alaskan Copper and Brass (www.alascop.com). We were able to contact Paul at AC&B to get "hard, cold-rolled seamless boiler tubing", which is a tough, durable 70/30 alloy. It has held up fine for 9 years so far and takes on a lovely sheen.
