sources for yellow cedar and clamp handles?

OK, I'm a newbie... I have two questions:
First, I have hunted and hunted for a source of Alaskan Yellow cedar in somethiong approaching boatbuilding lengths (is 12 feet too much to ask?)
Any ideas?

Second, I'm interested in making up a dozen (or so) wood clamps for lapstrake planking and I'd like to find a source of what I would call "stove handle bolts." They're about a 3/8 nut with a hnadle on it that looks for all the world like a wood stove lid handle.
Any help for sources?

Chuck, you are in the heart of West Coast woodenboat building country and you cannot find Alaska Yellow Ceder in decent lengths?
If not directly in Seattle how about Port Townsend or Anacortes both have boat lumber suppliers but I am sure RGM or another local will be along soon with some other and better answers.

As far as handles and such try doing a Google search using workholding or handles as key words.

Beardrum, You can get Yellow cedar for boatbuilding at Edensaw in Port Townsend
The clamp handles , bolts etc, can be purchased from Walter J. Simmons at
www.duck-trap.com Edensaw is www.edensaw.com and the other place that Dave mentioned is in Anacortes and is Flounder bay boat lumber they are at www.flounderbay.com All of the above are great folks to work with.

I have talked with FlounderBay, and was told that lengths over 12 feet weren't available. They suggested WRC, which would be ok, but isn't my first choice. Ditto EdenSaw. And the $$ were kinda high (over $8/BF). But if that's the going rate, and there are no other sources ....

I've seen the clamp handles at DuckTrap, but I'm hoping for something without a plastic handle.

I believe that handles you are looking for can be found at McMaster-Carr, look on page 2008 or search for "phenolic tapered handle".

They cost about $2.50 each.

I can't help with the yellow cedar, but go to McMaster-Carr's website and search on "easy-grip handles" or "clamp handles" any you'll find more than you ever wanted. The "easy-grip" ones, which most folks call handle nuts, are cheap and work nicely for clamps

Olson Lumber (ask for Jack)on Aurora Ave. N, Home Builders Supply on Nickerson by the Ballard bridge. There's a guy outside of Gorst (by Bremerton) on the way to Belfair that cuts Doug Fir and Yellow Cedar boat lumber, Pacific Coast Timber is the name I believe, I might be off a little on that one. How much yellow cedar you looking for? Watcha building? So, you don't care for Edensaw that much?

Heck, I made some clamps and just used a hex nut which I tightened with a closed end wrench as needed. Much less expensive, and that way you can spend your money on more clamps!

I made my own handles out of steel flat stock. Grip a 4" hunk of 1/8" X 1" flat bar in a steel vise and bend about 1" at a 30 degree angle. Drill a #7 hole anf tap it for a 1/4 screw. Viola! a steel clamp handle.. (aluminum works too) Rick

Don't know about handles, but these folks have yellow cedar, doug-fir and Sitka spruce. It might be worth a trip to Vancouver Island.
