Merriman winch springs

I'm looking for a source of new winch pawl springs for some old Merriman Bros. No. 6 winches. These winches are of the type that has a square fitting on the top onto which a ratcheting handle fits to operate it. Each winch has a single pawl and spring. Springs are about 1.25 in long and .25 inches in diameter. I probably could get replacements from McMaster Carr, but that may be a hit or miss ordeal. I'd like to find exact replacements.

Exact replacements can be had from McMaster Carr. You will need to know the wire diameter, the windings per inch or space between coils, and of course the length and width. They will provide you with more information if you call on the phone and ask for technical support regarding compression or (?) tension springs (562-692-5911 - give them a part number that is similar to your needs). They can custom wind springs for you and you can probably get a stainless equivalent. My experience has been that you can get very close to your OEM spec using the available stock. I have replaced a number of winch springs using their stock items and converting to stainless steel.
