    Question

I'm considering increasing the number of planks in the skiff I'm building from 3 to 4 per side. Is there a "rule" for lapstreak planking that says the boat should have an odd number of planks versus an even number of planks?

I can't see why it would matter but it seems like all the lap sided boats I know of (including the two canoes I've built) had an odd number of planks.

The rule I've always known is "what looks pleasing to the eye", and what fits the available planking stock.
