    Default Big Lagoon Boat-camp 9-06

Just got back from the second wooden boat campout this year at Big Lagoon near Eureka in Northern California.

Had a great time, even though I broke my *second mast* this season, and had to sail with a jury-rigged mast too short for the jib which was being flown as a mainsail.

After breaking the mast in early afternoon winds on Saturday were under tow for about a mile back to camp, and the Jollyboat handled very well with her hand-me-down mast and sails. The circular mount in the bow is for one of the small cannons.

The flag is Bavarian, for John's fiancee Pia -- the cutie in the ballcap, also shown launching the Olivia, the lovely cedar lapstrake sailing canoe.

The photo of the back of my boat is while I'm under sail and leaning against the mast -- aren't steering lines fun! Thanks to Forumite Les Schuldt for the folding anchor and bronze bow chocks.

So, it's now time to build a stronger mast.
