Jason, there is an out of print book by Allen Taube called Boatwrights Companion / Repairs Below the Water Line. This book can usually be found at places like ABE books or other used book brokers.
Another one is by Jim Trefethen, its called, Wooden Boat Renovation.
Both are well worth having .

One thing I found very helpful is to use the Wooden Boat article search and purchase the relevant back issues. Treasure trove of detailed info and extremely useful.
The other thing is go to a busy yard and ask workers and owners and look at the good restorations and the disasters in progress.

I'll ditto Wooden Boat Renovation and throw in that giant chunk of ballast, Details of Classic Boat Construction; The Hull.
Would that be with or without "the purist crap?"
2 books from WoodenBoat which are helpful are:
"Planking and Fastening" and "Frame, Stem and Keel Repair."
Another that slipped my mind is by Walter J. Simmons, Repairs.

Anybody mention Chapelle Boatbuilding?
Boatwrights Companion is worth the look for, sorry to hear it is out of print. Try the library.
How to Build a Wooden Boat by Bud McIntosh Absolutely the greatest. Excellent illustrations by Sam Manning.
Wooden Boat Store
It covers every aspect of building from laying down lines to launching. GOod Stuff![]()
Good Luck.

Hey True Love...how about books with both. One thing most here know is that if you do have a wooden boat there are certain things that must be repaired in the proper fashion, a main one is the hull. Even if you plan to use modern methods or technology to improve on it later you still need a solid foundation on which start with and build upon. I am here to learn not argue about opinions that are generally pretty well set in stone. There are the few books I have purchased so far, however I am still looking for recommendations on other helpful resources. Thanks everyone for you input.
Also I did check out some reviews on
"Wooden Boat Renovation: New Life for Old Boats Using Modern Methods"
by Jim Trefethen. It seems that everyone has been pretty pleased with this book so it is on its way now as well. And again keep you comments coming.
