Default I actually looked at buying an 'R' boat one time.

Cannell, Payne, and Page had one listed for years at $15K. I suppose it's a darn good thing that I didn't get it. The day that I went into their offices to speak with them about it they were closing a deal. They said that there was another coming up for sale but the $25K or so they wanted was too high for me at the time. I can only imagine that if $25K was too high for me on the second boat that I had no business buying the first one.

I loved the article in WBM on the "Pirate'. Everyone involved should be so proud to have preserved this beautiful boat.

    Mickey,
Mike Keers here, the guy you gave that 5.5 to. Mort, the other guy you met and my partner in the boat was one of the owners of Pirate back in the 60's, mentioned briefly on the CWB R-boat link given above. He still talks about how great the boat was to sail, but he's relieved he got rid of it and didn't have to pay for all the subsequent restoration and on-going upkeep for the last 40 years. He claims some of the boat's history on the site is incorrect, but he's old, so his memory is suspect.

(As for the 5.5, it's still a work in progress. It's still sitting under my boat hoist on the trailer, about 90% restored, I ran out of steam. You did good to get rid of it, it needed a LOT of work, probably everything you knew or suspected, and more, so much more.....but don't they all? )
