I am about to cut the CB slot in the keelson for my whilly boat. Can someone confirm the dimensions? The length is 34" (from 10" aft of station 3 up to station 5) but my novice eyes cant find the width. Looks like 1-1/8" from station 4 detail but that is for a dagger board case.

Also, does anybody have a tip for shaping the top of the keelson at the stems. The full 3-1/4" width from ST3-6 and tapering of the sides from that point were no problem but cutting the curve on the top face is a bit fuzzy. Seems like I could just epoxy the full thickness right on top of the stems and plane them down until the curve looks right?

Are there any whilly boat builders around? The previous whilly boat thread had 123 posts. Meerkat, are you tuned in? I was going to post in your recent thread but thought I might get more responses from a new one...any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, your post must have gotten over looked in the shuffle.

I can't remember the width without double checking, wich I'll do later on. I think it is 1", because that is what the spacer's in the CB case are. His scale drawings seem to be accuate enough to take measurments from.

    The Keelson and Inner stems...
I didn't taper ahead of time because I stretched mine out a bit, and had nothing to measure from. The taper found itself when I beveled the keelson. I just glued it full thickness and then planed it down, useing a thin batten to get a smooth curve. I found it a bit tricky to get a nice bevel around that curve.

    Good luck!

I just had a look. There is a drawing on the plan, middle of the page just below the Dagger board slot.
    Keel is 1 1/8"
Slot measures 1" but no figure is given.
The pieces on either side of the slot are notched to fit around the keel.

Thanks Greg. I was not sure if the DB and CB slot were the same size. 1" looks right to me now. I plan on cutting and attaching the keelson this weekend. I will attach the full thickness and shape on the mould.

How is your Whilly Boat project? I saw the pictures in another thread. Looks great!
