I am replacing the oil seals on a couple of 1955 Paragon reduction gears on Chris Craft drives. How do you get the shaft coupling nut loose? It is some type of spanner nut, not a standard hex. Are the bearings pressed in or will the unit come apart easily?

Check that it may be a bearing nut they usually have indents around outside, and a locking washer behind that will have a tab bent into indents to keep the nut from backing out. Dont have to have a spanner wrench a dull chisel or old screwdriver and hammer will work.
